Origin: Crazy about You (Broonzy? / Jazz Gillum)

Can anyone tell me if "Crazy About You" is an original Broonzy song -- I have the 1935 recording with him and the State Street Boys -- wondering who else did it, and if anyone earlier?

yours, Peter T.

Peter,

I've heard Little Walter do a "Crazy About You" don't know if it's the same one, haven't heard the Broonzy. It was in the fifties though.

On the 'Essential' Broonzy [ Click Here ] it is attributed to Bill 'Jazz' Gillum for whom Broonzy played guitar on numerous recordings. It is not on any of the Gillum collections that I have and, from consulting Dixon & Godrich, Gillum would have recorded it after 1943 if he ever recorded it all.

According to a nearly comprehensive discography, Blues and Gospel Records 1890-1943, 4th ed. (Oxford), there's only one recording of "Crazy About You" (by State Street Boys) before 1943.

Masato, can you look in that reference of yours for the author of the Halleluiah Boogie? I've been dyin' to get a copy of the lyrics but can't remember who recorded it.

Thanks much, Reg
