03 Dec 02 - 09:22 AM (#839549) Subject: RE: New member From: MMario Hi Barney! be careful with that bullet now, and try not to annoy Opee too much. The FAQ (see pulldown menu right above the thread list) can be heavy wading - but is well worth a perusal. And please feel free to rummage around in the old threads to get a feel of the place - just ignore the possum droppings and that stale jello in the pit - |
03 Dec 02 - 09:23 AM (#839550) Subject: RE: New member From: greg stephens Welcome. (1) What do you mean by "folk music"? (2) Please don't mention William Shatner. (3) Name the Magnicent Seven, or (if under 40), the Spice Girls (real and nicknamea). |

Learn to search the Digitrad and the Forum for previous threads before starting another. If you miss, don't worry. We will help you find whatever you need. This place loves to help folks. Mick |

03 Dec 02 - 10:02 AM (#839588) Subject: RE: New member From: Barney the Fifer Thanks everybody. I play guitar and sing, strictly as an amateur though. I also play all kinds of flutes, including the fife. My name is Barney and that's why I'm Barney the Fifer. My cousin is a drummer and sometimes we get together and play fife and drum music in the old Mississippi tradition. My parents took me to folk festivals like Newport and Philadelphia in the sixties. That formed my appreciation for folk music of all kinds that has lasted into middle age. When I said pop culture, at least musicwise, I meant the pop culture of my youth. That means the predisco era. I love TV. That's about it. |

03 Dec 02 - 10:26 AM (#839604) Subject: RE: New member From: SharonA Ah, a fellow TV lover! ...and a fellow American, I take it. Welcome from beautiful southeastern Pennsylvania, home of the Philadelphia Folk Festival and of Mudcat!! The only advice I can add to the above is: please be sure to label threads not directly related to music with the prefix "BS" (some members prefer to use this prefix to filter out the non-music threads). BTW, your thread title here is okay since it relates directly to Mudcat! :^) I've got to say, I love the Mudcat name you've chosen! Great pun!! Have fun, Sharon |
03 Dec 02 - 10:43 AM (#839617) Subject: RE: New member From: Barney the Fifer katlaughing, In my experience, many of the people who claim to hate, or to not watch, TV, are just in the closet. Once, at a song circle, I sang the theme songs from the Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island and Green Acres. Guess what, all 14 other folkies, including politicos, professors, a lawyer, and two doctors, all knew all the words and sang along. |
03 Dec 02 - 10:46 AM (#839618) Subject: RE: New member From: MMario those songs are all cultural icons though! I actually learned to sing them at summer camp - even though I had heard them before. |

But I'd like to see ya' take it a step further and start a *TV Testimonial* thread just fir grins. Bobert |
