17 Dec 02 - 05:44 PM (#849203) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: Max It's been a hell of a year folks. I might as well tell you about it now, since the kicker is already out of the bag. Yep, got a Mini-Mudcatter on the way, and as you would expect, we do have some appropriate names picked out. We chose not to learn the sex, so we don't know what's gonna pop out, but the doctor did say it's not a puppy (darn). If she's a girl, we picked out Lilly Ani. If he's a boy… are you ready for this?… Taj Lightning. No shit. The due date is January 20th, but all indications say its-a-coming early. The baby has already turned and dropped, and Emily (Yes, Emily is the love of my life who was kind enough to gestate my baby) is an active person who is pulling double shifts as a waitress because of our financial challenges. My bet is 2 weeks from now. And no, I'm not quite ready. More good news, after a 2 year legal battle (which in addition to the contested divorce helped create my financial challenges), I have finally gained custody of my other offspring Alexis Hope. She'll be 13 years old in March, and will come live with me shortly afterward. Instant Family. Best money I've ever spent. It looks as if the divorce will go through in a couple of weeks now too. So the landlord came up the other day to let some painters in to paint the windows, and notices a crib that we had recently purchased. The next day we get a letter saying to get out or pay and extra 30% rent starting December 1. Why? The lease was for 2 people. Apparently my unborn child makes it 2 ½ and soon 3. We tried to get out, but ended up paying the extra 30% for December. We're still trying to get out, but Emily can't carry things on account of her giant belly and many of my friends are too busy or are out of town due to the holidays to help us move, and now we need a 3 bedroom dwelling in a good school district because Alexis is coming too. My credit is shot because of the divorce, Emily's too because of her divorce last year. We've looked at a lot of places, but our price range limits us. Nothing suitable yet. Onstage is dead. We've been successfully sued by a creditor, so I had to completely stop doing business. You may have been noticing the Web site, email and links slowly going away. I need to distance myself and everything from any association with Onstage. What really sucks is that I'm locked into paying for the Yellow Page ads still in print but can't accept any of the business that may come from them. Oh, well. So I've changed careers. I am now a licensed Real Estate Agent in Pennsylvania and soon Delaware. My technological knowledge is already paying dividends. I consult for a couple of Brokers and Agents and Mortgage Brokers as well as sell houses and commercial properties. Not a lot of income now, but next year looks very promising. I've got a couple of sales already logged, but I won't get paid for them till March. In addition to some health problems (now completely resolved) it's been a challenging year. But I feel so good about 2003 I'm bursting. I managed to line up everything I could want in my life: a promising career without a boss, a wonderful loving relationship, my daughter, and new baby… a family… a real life. Patience and perseverance has paid off. The year of Mudcat was interesting. We lost most of our servers this year. (Shorty, Jah and Pene's computer are added to the list in the last few weeks). All that is left now is Taj (web), Bertha (help) and Charlie (database). But we still managed to get the upgrade done. I have a few more behind the scenes things to do, which will cause some downtime, but I'll warn you as far in advance as I can. Oh, and if I have to move suddenly, which is a possibility, that might mean a few unpredictable months of the Mudcat. I probably won't have time to get the new apartment wired in time to make it a smooth transition. I'm in talks with 2 outside services to take over hosting for these few months of uncertainty. My housing issues can only possible last until June, so at least it's finite. I apologize for not being more present and responsive this year, and I promise to be more attentive from now on. Just know that I was not blowing anyone off, I was just preoccupied with life for a bit. But I'm back now. Which leads me to a Mudcat Radio Revival. A few folks have mentioned how much they missed it, and I realized how much I miss it too. I'm in talks with a coffee shop down the street from us that will likely allow us to use their upstairs section on off nights to do just about anything we want. So, if we can solve the technical challenges, it looks like we'll get something going. Not sure what format, or how often, but its in the works. It may not be affordable to do at all or with any regularity. We had to take the archives down, because we let our ASCAP license ($250 at last check) lapse. So maybe if we do it, we'll broadcast it live and leave the archive up for only a week. Not sure, but it is at least in my head. Thank you all for your support this year. I can say with certainty that without it, the Mudcat would not have made it through the year. Me either. Thanks for all the CD sales, I hope you enjoy that. And thanks especially for the people who picked up the balls that I dropped. Amos and dick and susan, Pene Azul, Joe Offer, etc. Thank you. But now that I'm back… |

Okay....so you're workin' it out and to be absolutely truthful, I've always figured you would. Life ain't worth livin' if you're just sitting on the peaks. Too long in the valleys can be a killer but the views that you get from both are what makes things clearer. In the end we are responsible for what we've done and when it's all tallied up, if we've done our best by each other, the trip was worth every fall and every climb. There's a highway risin from my dreams Deep in the heart I know it gleams For I have seen it stretching wide Clear across to the other side Beyond the river and the flood And the valley where for so long I've stood With the rock of ages in my bones Someday I know it will lead me home .........from "Prayer in Open D" by Emmylou Harris Spaw |

17 Dec 02 - 09:31 PM (#849356) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: Dani It IS hard to believe a landlord can do that, Max, but the same thing happened to my husband and I. We lived in an apartment complex that had been fairly well wrecked by Hurricane Hugo, and the management didn't like to get around to fixing holes in roofs, etc. I was one of the complainers when MANY months later repairs had not been made. When they found out I was pregnant, with a one-bedroom apartment, they did, in fact, kick us out. Moved everything in that state, and went into labor shortly after. Without the $$ to pay a lawyer, there's not much to do about it. There were many, many hard times after that. Sounds like yours came before ; ) But things DO, in fact, get better. I hope hard times move behind you and you can enjoy your family. I wish you all the best. Read a wonderful book recently recently by/about a man named George Dawson who learned to read in his '90's. Wow. What a life. And talk about some hard times. But the main theme of the book (from whence the title) is "Life is so good. And I do believe it's getting better!" May it be so... Dani |

It does seem like that landlord is taking unfair advantage of your situation--and a grace period ought to come into play. This was their first child and one of the first of our friends to start their family so it was all quite new to us. Out of curiosity I asked if I could feel the "bump" and ended up giving mum (who was feeling very tired and frustrated at the wait) and the "bump" a friendly cuddle for about half an hour. It was a lovely feeling and mum relaxed and was asleep fo most of the time. My wife and I then went home only to be telephoned about an hour and a half later to say that labour had started as soon as we had left and the baby (a girl)had been born in the ambulance on the way to the hospital!! Ever since then I have been know as "The Inducer" amongst my circle of friends and frequently get asked to "lay on hands" in order to bring on a late delivery and so far, every time I have done it, a baby has been born soon after!!! So Max and Emily, I am placing my hands against the screen rite now and thinking "new baby" thoughts.............................(I guarantee that the baby will be born............ soon). 21 Jan 03 - 08:48 PM (#871897) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: catspaw49 Most parents go through the "Okay, what do we call the kid's private parts" routine and come up with something cutesy. In our case I recall that a local DJ had been referring to his as a "Hoozhee"....kinda' like Hoosier with an "ee" in the end instead of the "er." So instead of saying what you normally might....."The kid's got a rash on his dick"......you become more socially acceptable by saying he has a rash on his hoozhee, thing, water spout, tallywhacker, or whatever. Max and Emily have this one in the bag unless they are the "must use proper terms" types and say penis. I mean, considering the name choice, what else could this kid's be but a "lightning rod?" 22 Jan 03 - 09:28 AM (#872148) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: catspaw49 Well Amos, I felt I had to explain. When SRS say she had her kids use the "usual" names then I wonder what those are. To some I'm sure that in the male case, it's a penis, but to me the "usual" name is a "dick." Oddly enough, I have a lot more difficulty in saying penis than dick. For instance, I would never say, "Amos is certainly a penis-like cranium," but I have no problem observing that you are a fockin' dickhead!!!........But in any case, I think Beaverboy will indeed have a "lightning rod." 22 Jan 03 - 10:09 AM (#872196) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: Stilly River Sage Spaw, My kids certainly know the slang (they're 14 and 10 now) but those aren't the terms we use amongst ourselves, should the need arise. Several years ago, in order to encourage cooperation between my children I developed a special set of rules for a game we play called "Scribble." It isn't fair to call it Scrabble, because it might confuse anyone who came along thinking we were using the usual rules. The kids pool their letters and play against me. They take turns spelling whatever they want to, including proper nouns and rude words. We frequently allow the blind swapping of letters in the box if they're having trouble spelling a really good word. They are encouraged to spell off of the board, and get points for courtesy and lose points for being rude. We've had a few rude words spelled when the opportunity arose, but they don't go out of their way for them. It seems that once we lifted the "we don't talk like that" rule from our domestic venue, it isn't a big deal if those words are used, but they aren't used very often. And it's usually in the context of humor. SRS |
22 Jan 03 - 10:20 AM (#872212) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: Stilly River Sage Clarification: "being rude" constitutes being impolite to one another. Not the use of the words in question on the board. Clear as mud, right? |

I'm more of a boob guy, to be honest with you, and my record definitely, um, supports that salient position. Your highest accomplishment on the Cat, aside from near-death experiences, has been getting everyone to imagine you peeing in a river from a railroad bridge with that "Deep, too!" line. I, on the other hand, founded the Temble of the Golden Globes to widespread unspoken acclaim and international support and high feeling. I mean, if we're talking about kids and all we should get our definitons really clear, because otherwise they are going to get all confused, and when they meet "little Uncle Spaw", instead of telling it like it is and telling ma that "some dickhead was at the door", they're gonna report that it was an aureola-face instead, and no-one will be able to understand what happened!! First, both of you enjoy your Friday night and then, first thing on Saturday morning, Emily slings Max over her shoulder and carries him to the kitchen where they each have eggs and bacon followed by coffee, but Emily has a quarter cup of Castor Oil chaser. Then Emily carries Max to the bedroom where they both dress and then again carries him back to the kitchen where they prepare two of those pizzas. After eating one, emily carries Max back to the bedroom for a few laps around the track....Remember Max, it's Emily that needs the orgasm, not you! Emily carries Max to the TV where they both eat any pizza leftovers and Emily has another quarter cup of Castor Oil. As dusk settles and after putting pizza number 2 in the oven, it's off to the bedroom (Emily again is carrying Max) for another session. If you ain't up to this Max, give one of us a call. Back to the kitchen where they off pizza number two and Emily has a monster Coke with castor Oil again as the chaser. One way or another, you're in for one helluva' day on Sunday!!! Spaw |

24 Jan 03 - 11:49 PM (#874413) Subject: RE: BS: A Mudcat Baby????? From: Stilly River Sage My ob/gyn had a very nice policy when it came to sex and pregnancy. She said "you tell him whatever you want, and I'll back it up. You want sex, fine, I said it's okay. You don't want sex, fine, slacking off or none is okay by me, too." I don't remember feeling very sexy either time. I slept through most of the early labor with my first child, and woke in the morning with the water breaking. Three hours of hard labor and she was born. My son was just 1 1/2 hours of hard labor, after a morning in easy labor while working at the neighborhood recycling program. I was carrying around bags of cans and bottles. ;-) Both were born a week or two early, so I don't have any practical experience to add to the castor oil/pizza/orgasm suggestions. (I vote for number three, if you plan to try any of them!) I didn't use an epidural or any fancy anesthesia, either. We used a pudendal block that is very local and wears off after just a couple of hours. So no headaches or anything from the painkillers. Since my son ended up in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for two weeks (premature lungs, though he was 38 weeks), I was up and following him the next morning. I wasn't in the hospital more than about 18 hours. Friends called to find out how I was and I was already out of there, following Dylan to the children's hospital. It's amazing how fast you can recover from childbirth when you need to! After about three days of people giving me rides back and forth, I just started driving myself. Waiting two weeks to drive was for the birds. SRS |

More power to them in this endeavor, and I'll offer to send a few pieces of lumber to Amos. He might be able to make more if he uses a woodburner and forgets the brass. Use these as another Mudcat fundraiser. . . SRS |
