Hudson River Revival, 2003

From: EBarnacle1

At the Hudson River Revival this year, there will be a chantey site. I will occur several times on each of both event days and will be an open sing, to be led by the Afterguard [Raffish Rick Nestler, Jan Christensen and me] as well as anyone else we can corral.

There will be no sound system, just a few seats for those who can't stand to play, and a venue.

The purpose of this event will be to bring people down to the working waterfront, where they will be able to get out on the Hudson River with an oar, a paddle or a sheet in hand. So far, we have reservations from 7 boating groups and are open for the participation of more.

Reserve June 21 and 22, 2003 and come enjoy yourself.

Why am I not surprised at the overlap? Next year [2004] we will be back on Father's Day weekend. The event is scheduled to be as close to the Summer Solstice as possible.

I don't think it is Old Songs weekend, but I believe it is the same weekend as the Mystic Sea Heritage Fest.

If they can't stand to play, then why would they even be there?

If you can't stand to play [the pun was intentional] they can sit down.

At present, the boats include the fast ferry/taxi Michael Mann, which will be bringing guests to the festival, Fireboat John J. Harvey, one of the hero vessels of September 11, Schooner Pioneer, Sloop Clearwater, possibly other schooners and traditional vessels. Floating the Apple, Rocking the Boat, the East River Apprentice Shop, Sebago Canoe Club and other boating groups are scheduled to bring boats to get the people out on the water. Mystic may send a whaleboat.

Barry Finn and Richard Fewtrell are expected. Lynn Noel had to beg off due to family business. Various members of the Hudson River Sloop Singers [including Jan Christensen, Rick Nestler, me and others] and other groups are expected to join the chantey sing. If you wish to volunteer for the festival, call 845-454-7673 to get a volunteer form.

It's a great weekend, volunteers get to camp out and party, as well as mixing with the usual cast of performers, including the Mammals.
