26 Jun 98 - 01:13 PM (#31458) Subject: song From: wayne73@midwest.net I am looking for the lyrics of above song. I believe that the song starts as below. A tiny turned up nose Two cheeks just like a rose So sweet from head to toe This little girl of mine Two lips to kiss goodnight Two arms to hold me tight Two eyes that shine so bright This little girl of mine She is all the world to me She climbs upon my knee And to me she will always be This little girl of mine There are more lyrics that I do not know. I would appreciate the rest of the lyrics Thankyou Wayne A. Holloway |
27 Jun 98 - 01:49 PM (#31505) Subject: RE: From: JVZ Sorry, Wayne, I tried. I remember the song too, but no more lyrics than you. My mother used to sing it except she sang "That" instead of "This". Although in her seventies, she's still alive, so I called her. She didn't remember where she got it and said she might have gotten it from her mother. I went to my favorite place for old songs which is http://ntl.matrix.com.br/pfilho/html/main_index/ There I found a #4 Hit in 1931 entitled "Little Girl" but they don't have the lyrics up yet. It was performed by Joe Ventuti and featured Harold Arlen. You might try back with them from time to time as they haven't had 1930 thru 1949 on there very long so I'm sure more lyrics will be added. AS FOR THE REST OF YOU GUYS, WHY DON'T YOU GO THERE AND LOOK AROUND AND SEE IF YOU CAN HELP THEM OUT WITH SOME LYRICS. |

20 Feb 99 - 01:56 PM (#59381) Subject: Lullabyes From: Dawn I'm looking for more information about a lullaby that has been sung in our family for generations. Where is it from? Are there additional lyrics? Is the music available? My great-grandmother sang it to her kids in the mid-1920's but I don't know if it goes farther back than that. Any info would be great! Here are the lyrics I know:
Two cheeks just like a rose So sweet from head to toes That little girl of mine Two eyes that shine so bright Two lips that kiss good night Two arms that hold me tight That little girl of mine No one will ever know How much your coming has meant Because I love her so She's something heaven has sent She's all the world to me She climbs upon my knee To me she'll always be That little girl of mine |

19 Jun 10 - 04:38 AM (#2930968) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: This Little Girl of Mine From: Joe Offer Well, I found it on an album called Into My Own Thing: The Jewel and Whit Recordings, 1966-1971, by Bobby Powell. It's a R&B recording - I thought it would be a sentimental old thing, but it turned out to be pretty good. There's a girls' chorus on the two..., two...., two.... part in a cutesy sort of way, and then Powell sings the "No one will ever know" in a bluesy fashion. Got all that? But then, there's a boy's version with the same lyrics, recorded by Gene Autry - and it sounds like this (click) So, there is a country version of the song, and a R&B version. the lyrics are posted above. -Joe- |
19 Jun 10 - 11:16 AM (#2931064) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: This Little Girl of Mine From: Arkie Lester McFarland and Bob Gardner, known professionally as Mac and Bob recorded "That Little Girl of Mine" which has lyrics similar to if not identical to those requested. The recording was reissued by Old Homestead on LP and was eventually issued on CD. The song was written in 1873 by William S. (Shakespeare) Hays, a prolific and popular song writer in the 19th century who also wrote "Molly Darling". Mac and Bob and Gene Autry, as well, were on the WLS National Barndance so their music was widely distributed over the airways and both sold a lot of recordings although Gene outsold Mac and Bob by far. Here is a link to Mac and Bob singing Faded Rose and a Broken Heart. Mac and Bob |
19 Jun 10 - 10:53 PM (#2931326) Subject: ADDPOP: This Little Girl of Mine From: Joe Offer To my mind, the best recording with this title is the doo-wop classic, recorded by the Cleftones (1956) and later by Dion: LITTLE GIRL OF MINE (Herbert Cox & Morris Levy) Oh, little girl of mine, Gee, you sure look fine; Yes, you appeal to me, I'll never set you free. Be my lovin' baby till the end of time, I can't seem to get you off my mind, my baby. The boys will roll their eyes as we go strollin' by. It's not so hard to see, that they all envy me 'Cause you're my lovin' baby, you belong to me. That's the way it was meant to be. Oh, well, now I know I love you so, I'll never, I'll never let you go, I need your love, oh, so much; I thrill to your touch. Oh, well, now I know I love you so, I'll never, I'll never let you go, I need your love, oh, so much; I thrill to your touch. So little girl, stay true; that's all I ask of you. Be mine and mine alone, don't leave your happy home. 'Cause I love you, baby, and I always will, You're my one and only thrill, my baby My honey, my sweet thing. The "mouth music" that accompanies the song is "Lil lil lil lil lil" or something like that, five times, over and over again. Cleftones- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZXAtnVGmBU -Joe- There's a completely different song with the same title, recorded by Faron Young. Can't say I like it... |

I looked it up today because he's going to die Wednesday. The song was originally sung by Bonnie Owens and was 'boy' instead of girl. My Grampa changed it to girl for me and I guess that's what yours did too Who cares for fame or fortune Who cares for wealth or gold Because I find a fortune Within my arms I hold A tiny turned up nose Two cheeks just like a rose So sweet from head to toes That little boy of mine Two arms that hold me tight Two eyes that shine so bright Two lips that kiss goodnight That little boy of mine No one will ever know Just what his coming has meant Because I love him so He's something heaven has sent He's all the world to me He climbs upon my knee To me he'll always be That little boy of mine And when he lays his head Upon his pillow so white I pray the Lord above To guide him safe through the night In dreams I see his face And feel his fond embrace There's no one can replace That little boy of mine. |

It has the following lyrics: VERSE 1: Who cares for fame and fortune? Who cares for wealth or gold? Because I find a fortune, Within my arms I hold. CHORUS 1: A tiny turned up nose, Two cheeks just like a rose, So sweet from head to toes, That little boy of mine. Two arms that hold me tight, Two eyes that shine so bright, Two lips that kiss “Good-Night,” That little boy of mine. No one will ever know Just what his coming has meant, Because I love him so, He's something heaven has sent. He’s all the world to me. He climbs up on my knee. To me he'll always be That little boy of mine. VERSE 2: I dreamed about a castle. ’Twas high up in the skies; But in a little cradle, My dreams I realized. CHORUS 2: A tiny turned up nose, Two cheeks just like a rose, So sweet from head to toes, That little boy of mine. Two arms that hold me tight, Two eyes that shine so bright, Two lips that kiss “Good-Night,” That little boy of mine. And when he lays his head Upon his pillow so white, I pray the Lord above To guide him safe thru the night. In dreams I see his face And feel his sweet embrace. There’s no one can replace That little boy of mine. And the owner has posted images of the sheet music in two parts: here and here, and has also posted abount 20 recordings. The earliest recording I can find online is this one at the Internet Archive by Bert Lown and His Biltmore Orchestra. |

He climbs upon my knee. He weighs two hundred three. Says: “Where’s the LSD?” That little boy of mine. He took the car today And he just now brought it back. You’ll find what’s left of it Crammed in a brown paper sack. Who says: “Like, man, I’m hip”? Who thinks his pa’s a drip? Who gives us lots o’ lip? That little boy of mine. They say he’s heaven-sent, But we think he is the worst. Could be the president, That’s if the neighbors don’t kill him first. Those loaded dice he rolled, That bootleg booze he sold. Next week he’ll be paroled, That little boy of mine, That little boy of mine. |
