Lyr Req: Shores of Botany Bay

Subject: Lyr Req: Different version of Botany Bay
From: GUEST,Mark Young

I have a delightful, upbeat, fast paced mp3 that was titled "Botany Bay", but is much different from any version found here at D.T./Mudcat. I can't find it via searches on D.T./M.C. here or via Google or Lycos.

Here are the opening lyrics close as I can figure them out; I would appreciate the rest of the lyrics, and any other info. Thanks! (drop an email if you have info).

My ship she sails in the morning
For half a world away
So raise your (you?) glasses just once more <...??>
...
...

CHORUS:
Farewell you little narrow streets I wandered as a child
Farewell you (kindly?) neighbors, I used to drive you wild
I'm bound for South Australia, the land of great renown
And I'll drink today, before I'll say, 'farewell to my native town'

End of verse has line about the shores of Botany Bay

Thanks,

Mark

Well, I searched Mudcat for "streets I wandered as a child," and found nothing. I crosslinked to what we have.

Hey Mark,

Those are lyrics to a tune I have by The Dublin City Ramblers. I can't dig it out just now but I'll try over the weekend. But first I'll do a search on Google and see what I find.

Hey Mark,

On In Concert, The Dublin City Ramblers. Listed only as Botany Bay.
Best I can do just now.

Great song, Mark, but apparently very scarce.

I posted the lyrics today - filter on "botany"

Farewell to your bricks and mortar
farewell to your dirty lies
farewell to your gangways and gangplanks
and farewell to your overtime
for the big ship Rag-a-muffin
is lying at the quay
for to take oul Pat
with a shovel on his back
to the shores of Botany Bay

That's yet another quite different song with Botany Bay in the title. For the full text and tune as originally collected in Australia in the 1950s, see this earlier thread: Lyr/Tune Add: SHORES OF BOTANY BAY

Tiger has posted the lyric asked for here in a separate thread: Lyr Add: Botany Bay (another) - Masterless Men
