27 Jun 98 - 07:18 PM (#31524) Subject: song from film From: mm I've just been watching the film "Babe" (about a sheep-pig, as no doubt you remember.
There's a song in it which I've always heard was a Shaker hymn -
"If I could make a day for you I'd bring you a morning golden and new..."
but I see the tune is credited to St Saens.
Does anyone know the story of the song/hymn? |

I heard it first in the movie "Babe" when Mr. Hoggett sings it to Babe to cheer him up. Later, I found a version done in the '70s (in English) by a couple of European singers. The lyrics that I know are: If I had words, I'd make a day for you. I'd sing you a morning golden and true. I would make this day last for all time, Give you a night full of moonshine. It sounds like an old English melody and I'd love to find a version that wasn't 'pop'. Thanks! Peg |

(While my fiance and I were in England last month, we saw a BBC program about royal weddings. One of these weddings (I can't remember whose) included this music, played by an enormous organ. We looked at each other and said -- Babe!! I didn't include that reference in my original posting because I didn't think anyone would believe me!) I just discovered this site and have had great fun reading the various threads; there are some very nice people who read/write here. I appreciate your help! Peg |
