02 Jan 03 - 11:43 AM (#857242) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: Jim Krause I saw him last Feb. at a bluegrass festival. Shook his hand too. Real nice fellow. He even seemed a little embarrassed, thinking he should have known who I was. I apologized and said "No, Mr. McReynolds, I know you from your recordings better than you know me." And we both laughed at that. May he rest in peace. Jim |
02 Jan 03 - 01:12 PM (#857330) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: kendall He and Jesse often went "field picking" with ordinary folks. Southern gentlemen, both of them. |
02 Jan 03 - 01:16 PM (#857336) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: beadie Field pickin', indeed. I learned the lyric to "Paradise" at one of Jim and Jesse's impromptu seminars years ago. Professionalism and the dedication to sharing the music were their hallmark. |
03 Jan 03 - 10:34 AM (#857759) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: GUEST,Gern The ranks are certainly getting thinner in bluegrass' patriarch generation. Jim was a fine singer and class act; perhaps overshadowed by his innovative brother. But, handling the melody in memorable brother-harmonies, he gave us "Hard Hearted," "Sweet Little Miss Blue Eyes," "Freight Train," "Diesel on my Tail," "Ole Slewfoot," "Are You Missing Me?" and hundreds of other vintage bluegrass tunes. What is Jesse to do? Imagine brothers so close they work together nearly every night for over 50 years, marry sisters and buy adjoining farms. "There's a better home a-waiting..." |

06 Jan 03 - 06:25 PM (#860147) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: GUEST Jim & Jesse's guitar/mandolin sound is one of the defining bluegrass sounds I've come to love so much. Sad news, but perhaps not so unexpected considering the cancer, and recent loss of his wife. Funny how quickly one partner follows the other sometimes, isn't it? |
07 Jan 03 - 09:21 PM (#861233) Subject: RE: Obit: Jim McReynolds From: Art Thieme It is quite strange. But it does seem to happen that some couples, like geese and other animals, mate for life. John and Marie Hartford went close together too. Art Thieme |
