It'll be a great weekend if last year is anything to go by. It is really nice to see our facilities put to such good use.
What a pity, though that admission is by a weekend ticket only and that it is not possible to attend just the odd concert.

Sooz - there are also 'All Day Saturday' and 'Saturday evening (concert) only' tickets available although we don't shout too loud about them - being a small organisation it makes the logistics more complicated! I'm sure they'll be available on the day - we prefer pre-booking for the weekend itself but it's not critical just helps us gauge numbers.

Last year's festival weas superb, and the three day fiddle workshop I attended after it, led by Brad Leftwich, was perfect. Nick, what are the details for this year's post-festival workshops, and who's handling the bookings? I understand Keith's not doing it this year.
Cheers

As we seem to change our name almost yearly, and the names never fit the boxes on forms, you can call us what you like. Just make sure everyone knows where we are!

Hi, I'm an American staying long-term in Wales (Radnorshire/Powys) and I'm interested in being a part of your Old Time weekend. I've heard rave reviews from some of the people (such as Bruce Molsky) who have visited Gainsborough in the past.

Is there anyone in this discussion forum heading to Gainsborough from the mid-Wales/Herefordshire area who'd be interested in sharing travel expenses?

I play old time guitar -- have a little Gibson LG-2 along with me --and attend as many OT contests as I can each summer, including Galax,Virginia; Mt. Airy, North Carolina; Elk Creek Virginia; Fries Virginia; and others.

At any rate, I stumbled across this forum accidentally today while searching for recordings of Robert Burns's songs. I've got to play something at a Burns Supper this evening!

It would be good to hear from any of you about what's going on in Old Time music here in the U.K. (and, more specifically, Wales and the Midlands).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mrs.Duck and myself are interested in getting down this year, depending on nest sitting for the ducklings. Can you give us a postcode for the school, so we can find it via Multimap?(their search seems to ignore schools if asked by name). Thanks in advance.
Quack!

Hi Geoff & Mrs D. Here's a clicky for the multimap showing the school:
Castle Hills school. This link puts you in too close, for some reason. If you give it one step less magnification, you'll see the school at the top centre of the map.
God, I hope this works!

It's all been said above, last year was great. So I'll be there this year.
If there are any old timers interested in the Beverley Festival this year, there are two new options on the table.
First, you can now book a ticket just for the camp/caravan site
@ £4.80 + vat/night. and just do the fringe, or purchase a ticket on the door for a concert.
Secondly, Nellies has asked to be included in the fringe and the lady likes old time, (not sure if she said a good old time though).
Any interested parties can book the camp site through ADASTRA or Beverley folk Festival on the web. If there are any negative results please get back to me (this is sent with the hope of getting old time music as a regular event at this festival)

We may not be able to get there for the full weekend, and would like to organise our visit around what is happening.

Honduras!!!!!

What was it that Mike Harding used to say ... 'Hope it rains. Hope all the donkeys are dead!'

(Before any animal rights people complain it's a joke on the British seaside town.)

We're planning to turn up on Friday night and were wondering if there was still space for indoor camping - if not we'll sleep in the car. We haven't bought tickets but are wanting to join in the sessions and maybe pay for a concert or two - have to go home Saturday night but not early.

The indoor camping area is fairly enormous - its a school Gym, first come first served. The tickets aren't by concert, they're by the day (I'm almost positive - nickp can correct me if I'm wrong)or by the weekend. A few people will definitely be sleeping in their vehicles. I'm camping outside for 5 days (festival + fiddle workshop) - taking a small tent with a gas lamp to warm it for 20 minutes before I get in, and a winter sleeping bag. I don't like listening to people snoring, I prefer hearing the wind in the trees and the rain on the tent! It's been great in previous years.
There's a bar in the school, and you'll be able to buy three meals a day.
Cheers
Ray

There was a whisper that we could just pay for a saturday night concert ticket but do we need a day ticket to join in sessions in the school? I rather hope not .

Yes I fear so, you'll either need to buy a weekend ticket (£35 nonmembers, £30 members) or you can do an all day ticket for Saturday (£18 and £15 ditto). Both options will include workshops (as space permits) & sessions & concert(s). We have no facilities to restrict people's access to 'just sessions' once they're in.

Or you can do a 'just Saturday evening concert' for £10 (no concessions) but that isn't available until late afternoon (although I wouldn't like to give a definitive answer about what 'late' means, maybe about 4pm after the workshops have finished).

I'll keep checking this thread until late afternoon (UK time) but after that I have ridiculous amounts of things to sort out for the event and am unlikely to see a keyboard for a while.... (and maybe that's a good thing!)

Thanks to all those who performed, helped and attended in general. I reckon it was a good weekend - even I managed to see some of it when I wasn't rushing round doing my scalded cat imitations. Lots of happy vibes.

Next year - our 10th anniversary - is 13th to 15th February. Watch out for another thread then.
