Lyr Req: Tom Dixon

TOM DIXON
(from the singing of Willis Norrad)
(Doerflinger - 'Songs of the Sailor and Lumberman - page 251)

Tom Dix-on runs a cat-house way down on Har-low Street.
And if you are a lum-ber hog, it's friends there you'll meet.
The gals are not so pret-ty, but I guess they're not so slow,
And if you are a lumber hog they'll help you spend your dough.

Chorus:
Good-bye, Al-ice, I'm go-ing, I'm go-ing far a-way,
I'm going to the North-east Car-ry, to make an oth=er pay;
My coin was made for blow-ing; girl-ie, it's up to you
You can go back to old Fan's, you can join the old whore band,
Oh, Al-ice, good bye, I'm go-ing.

Is this all that exists of this? I couldn't find anything on the net that didn't refer back to Doerflinger - nor anything on Fan Jones - who was a rival of Tom Dixon.

Not a clue, MMario, from either Sandy Ives' LARRY GORMAN or the MINSTRELSY OF MAINE. I suppose it's one of those rare remnants from what most traditional singers considered too rude for the ears of song collectors.

It's mentioned in The Traditional Ballad Index, which says it's in the book by William Main Doerflinger, "Songs of the Sailor and Lumberman," (1972).
Here's the Ballad Index entry.

Oops. I guess I didn't read your post carefully. Do you mean to say you have the Dorflinger book and all it contains is the one verse?
