--howdy campers anyone have the lyrics to (ragin sea) from the new lost city ramblers--oh the ragin sea how it roars and the cold chilly winds how they blow--for the landlord lies sleepping down below

I think the song you are looking for goes under the title of The Mermaid.
There are several versions of the song in the DT or you can use the Lyrics and Knowledge Search to find previous threads.

NLCR sang a related song titled WAVES ON THE SEA (from the Carter Family), which is in the DT.

RAGING SEA

Nine times around said the captain of the shio
And nine times around said he,
Ahd nine times around we are sinking in the deep
While the landlord lies dreaming down below.

Oh, the ocean waves, how they roar,
and the cold, chilly winds, how the blow
For tonight we poor sailors are sinking in the deep,
While the landlord lies dreaming down below.

First on the deck was the captain of the ship,
And a fine looking captain was he,
Said, I've a wife in old New Mexico,
And tonight she is looking for me me.

Next on the deck was the sassy little cook
And a sassy little cook was he
He cared no more for his wife and his child
Than he did for the fish of the sea.

The next on the deck was the lady of the ship,
And a fine looking lady was she,
Said, I've a husband in old New Mexico,
And tonight he is looking for me me.

Next on the deck was the lady of the ship.
And a fine looking lady was she,

Toadfrog ...that was the end of The Mermaid song as I learned it at school.

The Chorus went......
And the raging seas did roar
And the stormy winds did blow
And we poor sailor boys were up, up, up aloft
With the landlubbers lying down below, below, below
with the landlubbers lying down below

Curious, indeed, with the refeence to the "landlord lies dreaming down below." What on earth is going on here?

Cordially,
