BS: Help for Rick's Scottish Sister-in-law.

Jeezus, excuse the awkward heading, but this one has me stumped and I thought I'd throw it out to the good folks at Mudcat.

Before he passed away in September of last year Tom Docherty (father of Mudcatters Mcknees, and Duckboots) bought a big 'buggy'. I don't know what else to call it, cuz I haven't really seen one around here (Canada)

After a lifetime of driving, he wasn't very pleased to have to give up his licence, and apparently he went out and bought the "super-deluxe-bells and whistles" four wheeled scooter.

Well....he only rode in it once, and the story, as Linda (Mcknees) tells it was hilarious. He chugged from the Senior's Centre to the Town Centre Mall in East Kilbride. After doing some shopping and getting ready to go, he was accosted by security, accusing him of trying to steal Mall property!!! Apparently he didn't have all the ownership stuff handy, so the cops IMPOUNDED his new buggy! He then went to the Post office to telephone the Buggy dealership, to sort things out,........and fainted!! (probably from stress)

After a check-up at the Hospital, he went to the police station to get his buggy, but by then it was getting late, and the only way to get it back to the Senior's Centre was to ride it. He called Linda (also a cop) and while he putted along the sidewalk, she drove beside him at 10 miles an hour! Must have made a fascinating parade.

Sadly Tom did not get to have any more adventures on his buggy, and Linda has been looking for a way to sell it for several months now, with no luck.

I figured that it wouldn't be difficult....it only has about five miles on it and seems to be deluxe and in perfect shape. If it were around here. I'd go to Sunnybrook Hospital and put up some signs in the senior care area......but it's in Glasgow.

Sooooo....does ANYONE know where she might go to find a potential buyer for this thing? Are there magazines for seniors (there are tons of them here) where you can put an add in for this type of thing?

It's an Electric Mobility "Rascal 329 LE" four wheeled scooter. It apparently even has a roof!

Anyone know which direction to steer Mcknees?

Cheers and thanks.

Rick

First Rick, I must say that I haven't a clue, but I enjoyed the story!

Of course, you could advertize it on that "fucking" website you mentioned on your show....you know, Transexuals.Com..........Just wanted to let you know that someone was listening..........hehehehehe

Spaw....Who shouldn't have been amazed there WAS a website!!!!

Rick ...... these things are so popular in my area that there is a special section in the Classified Ads of the local paper. I'm sure there must be something similar in Glasgow.

Sort of like a golf cart, but not quite? Put ads up in the Senior Center and the hospitals if they will let her. Handicapped people need those things and they are expensive.

has she contacted the dealer he bought it from? They might resell it on consignment. Flyers at the senior centers and nursing homes, too, as Sorcha said.

These folks might have some ideas: Mobility Scotland.

Great story!

Rick,

You could try eBay. You could put a reserve on it.

Rick, Rick Rick

Four out of six not bad .... for the score on this thread ... those who led the historical stampede ... that led us away from musical discussions ... into all-emcompassing chat boards.

Nope, I ain't complaining, nor preaching, for this is just the sort of Moose-turd Pie I was looking forward to.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, I can tell you that I have tried to get the dealer to take it and sell it for me - not interested.   I advertised in the two best selling newspapers in Glasgow. not a single response.   I have tried the free paper and the local paper, putting cards up in the local supermarkets, and finally ebay to no effect at all. Also tried the residents in the home he was in and Motobility Scotland were only interested if I was donating it to them. Any other suggestions would be most gratefully accepted.   Linda

If you donated it to the home, could you get a tax break? My mom donated my dad's oxygen concentrator to his Home and was able to take the new cost of the machine off her taxes even though the Veteran's Admin. bought it. This is in US..........

If it's reasonably powerful, she could probably rent it out to tourists at Whitby Week. Big hills.

Thanks Mudcatters for all your help, and Giok, I sent you a PM. Dick, that's a pretty good idea and I'm sure we'd make a good profit renting it out at Whitby, the only problem is that McKnees and the Scooter are in Glasgow and it'd take her a week to drive it down there. I'm chuckling to myself as I picture her driving it motorway, all the cars lining up behind her.

Cheers,

Duckboots
