Hi,
just wondering if anyone can make out the lyric in Bert Jansch's "Woe is Love My Dear". I can make out every verse but the one which refers to the Beggar(s). If you can enlighten me on this one, I'd appreciate it.

I found a sound sample at Yahoo! and it seems to contain the verse you are asking about. Here's what I think hear:

Woe is love, my dear.
Do all the friends of God befriend the beggars,
Know* how they lead their lives and love* their company?
Woe is love, my dear.

*These words are still uncertain, but I have chosen the words that seem to make the most sense.

John, if you have the rest of the words, please post them.

My 1967 Bert Jansch Songbook has it as:

Do all the friends of God befriend the beggars
Of how they lead their lives and of their company
Woe is love my dear

I would like to have the whole lyrics to that song so if you can post it in here I would appreciate it very much.

WOE IS LOVE MY DEAR - Bert Jansch - lyrics from 1967 songbook published by heathside/sing

I am afraid to say what's on my mind dear
And although I'm fond of you my mind is not too clear
Woe is love my dear

If you will answer just one little question
Then satisfied I'll be if you have reason
Woe is love my dear

Do all the friends of God befriend the beggars
Of how they lead their lives and of their company
Woe is love my dear

If you do ask I'd give any gift I have
For any gift I have I'd give to all who ask
Woe is love my dear

And if you do ask what gift I want from you
I'd smile and say there's only one I do require
Woe is love my dear
