In today's New York Times, there is an extraordinary full page essay (ad.) by Wendell Berry against the National Security Act and the drift towards empire, written in his usual eloquent Jeffersonian style and stance. I believe a copy of it can be found here. yours, Peter T.

09 Feb 03 - 10:33 PM (#886492) Subject: RE: Wendell Berry Speaks Out From: Little Hawk That is the finest summation of the incredible position America has drifted into that I have seen yet by anyone. Wendell Berry hits all the bases, and states what is becoming shockingly obvious just about everywhere...except, apparently, to a large number of Americans...who are living in a media-created dream world that is teetering on the edge of a nightmare. The USA can do two things at this point: Wake up and completely re-examine its own moral collapse...or drift into a 3rd World War against not one, not two, but many opponents, because the rest of the World has just about had enough of being...what's the word? Terrorized. |
