Well, it's been almost eight years and Phil's a little older now, but here's your answer, from http://www.philcoulter.com/: February 19th 1942.

Now we know.
-Joe Offer, who was actually researching "Coulter's Candy"-

Nothing to do with Phil, as the man in the song was really Robert Coltart or Coultart, from Galashiels, and the song has been sung since 1898 at the least.

Took you a while to answer that, didn't it, Joe? Mudcat running a bit slow these days!

After watching a PBS special last night, a concert by Celtic Thunder, I found that 8 of the songs they sang were written by Phil Coulter. Since this thread title is just his name, I thought I should put my queries here instead of starting another thread.

Here are the Phil Coulter songs Celtic Thunder sang:
"Heartland"
"The Old Man" (several lyric threads in the forum)
"Heartbreaker"
Steal Away (chords)
"My Boy"
"Ireland's Call"
"That's A Woman"
"Remember Me, Recuerde Me"

Phil Coulter also wrote these songs (lyrics here in the forum):
"Scorn Not His Simplicity"
"Yesterday's Men"
"Home From The Sea"
"The Town I Knew So Well"

Anyone have the lyrics (or lyr/chords) to "Ireland's Call" or "My Boy" or "Heartland" or any of the other Phil Coulter songs?

G

I have most of Phil's songs worked out for guitar, here is Hand Me Down Me Bible

Hava a good look around the site, you will find plenty more, inc. The Old Man, Town I Loved So Well, The Molly Maguires, Steal Away, Scorn Not His Simplicity, Free The People and a few more.

Phil Coulter also wrote most of The Bay City Rollers hits, and some songs for Cliff Richards

Thanks, Shaneo not logged. :)
As I said, I already found Scorn Not His Simplicity, The Old Man and the chords to Steal Away here in the forum.
I'll look up the other ones you mentioned (which I didn't know were Phil Coulter songs).

I posted the lyrics to "Heartland" in a separate thread.

I've done some googling to find Phil Coulter's lyrics but basically what I come up with are lyrics to songs he's RECORDED - most of which, apparently, are not his own compositions. (That's a common "google glitch" I encounter when trying to find who wrote a song or find lyrics composed by a given songwriter.)

Shaneo, that is a great resource. I wasn't aware that Coulter wrote a song about the Molly Maguires and couldn't find it. Could you give me a link?

Thanks and all the best,

Mick

Looking for guitar chords or sheet music for Ally Bally Bee - can anyone out there help me? I'd like to record it with a compilation of other songs for my soon-to-be grandchild.

Thanks!
Pam

Hi everyone!

This is really a helpful Site!

Would anyone know, where I could find a bit on the History of the "Lifeboat Song" ("Home From The Sea")
that Phil Coulter wrote.

I mean what inspired him to write it, are there Story's connected to it etc.

Thanks, Home!
