10 Mar 03 - 11:51 AM (#906594) Subject: Lyr Add: THE BALLAD OF OTTO FRANK From: McGrath of Harlow Here is: ^^ THE BALLAD OF OTTO FRANK Original tune composed by Steven Macdonald Inside my soul, I hear a quiet voice that stirs, She's calling me, And I know that she must be heard, Diary underneath my arm, Keep my daughter safe from harm, For she was wise and often smiled, Oh Lord, preserve my child. I know she's gone, The Nazis took her from this world, She's calling me, And I know she must be heard, Through the blinding pain and strife, Guard her writings with my life, For she was wise and often smiled, Oh Lord, preserve my child. And now I've shared, My daughter's words with all the world, She speaks to all, And I know that she is heard, Her stories and her diary, Are published for the world to see, The covers all bear her wise smile, Oh Lord, preserve my child. August 21, 1998 From this site. (But this thread shouldn't be headed "Tune Add") |

10 Mar 03 - 12:09 PM (#906613) Subject: RE: Tune Add: Ballad of Anne Frank From: GUEST,Bobby Sorry about the wrong heading and dummy post. These words are different to the song I heard a few nights ago. I was told it was called the Ballad of Anne Frank. The word Amsterdam was mentioned several times in the song and also a line something like "soldiers speaking with foreign tongues outside the door" It was song beautifully and I was really taken by it. |

THE BALLAD OF ANNE FRANK (Johnny McEvoy) ^^ What did you dream my love my love, that woke you from your sleep I dreamt I saw the soldiers, again march up our street I saw them in their uniforms and their boots of shinny leather And I knew when they came to my front door the day would go no farther Chorus And the wind blows cold from the Zider Zee and Amsterdam is weeping But Vincent's tears can't wash away the shame that we are feeling And what did you dream my love my love that keeps you now from sleeping I heard the soldiers on the stairs, in foreign tongues they're speaking And they took me to the railway yard where the carriages were waiting For on their sleeve was a crooked cross, on my heart was the star of David Chorus What did you dream my love my love, there are tears upon your pillow I saw the chimney's in the east and the black smoke from them billows And it slowly swept across the land til it covered ever nation But no one heard my lonesome cry or came to my salvation Chorus So sleep my love it's over now, it's time that you were leaving The morning stars are fading fast, there's no more time for dreamin' For the sun will warm the earth again and dry up all the sorrow The flowers that faded yesterday will bloom again tomorrow Chorus |

16 Jul 07 - 07:26 PM (#2104652) Subject: Lyr Add: THE BALLAD OF ANNE FRANK (Johnny McEvoy) From: Mickey191 Rabbi Sol: Cantaria is a good place which covers many lyrics sites. The link took me right back to Mudcat. THE BALLAD OF ANNE FRANK What did you dream, my love, my love, that woke you from your sleep? I dreamt I saw the soldiers again march up our street. I saw them in their uniforms and their boots of shiny leather, And I knew when they came to my front door, the day would go no farther. CHORUS: And the wind blows cold from the Zuider Zee, and Amsterdam is weeping, But Vincent's tears can't wash away the shame that we are feeling. And what did you dream, my love, my love, that keeps you now from sleeping? I heard the soldiers on the stairs. In foreign tongues they're speaking. And they took me to the railway yard where the carriages were waiting, For on their sleeve was a crooked cross. On my heart was the Star of David. CHORUS What did you dream, my love, my love? There are tears upon your pillow. I saw the chimneys in the east, and the black smoke from them billows. And it slowly swept across the land till it covered every nation, But no one heard my lonesome cry or came to my salvation. CHORUS So sleep, my love. It's over now. It's time that you were leaving. The morning stars are fading fast. There's no more time for dreaming. For the sun will warm the earth again and dry up all the sorrow. The flowers that faded yesterday will bloom again tomorrow. CHORUS |

23 Nov 08 - 01:17 PM (#2500617) Subject: RE: Req/Add: Ballad of Anne Frank (& Otto Frank) From: oldhippie Another Anne Frank song: ANNE FRANK'S EYES Craig Sonnenfeld - 2005 I gaze into your dark eyes in a faded photograph, a picture of a young girl who's forgotten how to laugh, taken right before the night fell, and the boots marched by your door, taken right before the blood ran and they still demanded more how confused were you when old friends turned against you with their lies, and how I wish I could have saved just a single tear from Anne Frank's eyes. you hid up in the secret rooms above your father's shop, and tried to keep believing the insanity would stop well, how'd you stay so quiet with the hellhounds on your trail, and how'd you stay so hopeful that you'd live to tell the tale, 'though you wanted to let out a scream it would have been unwise how I wish I could have saved just a single tear from Anne Frank's eyes. after two long years of loneliness in your cold attic cell the boots came crashing through the walls and they sent you all to hell where you lived in quiet defiance but just briefly while you could 'til your life gave out beneath the weight of a ravaged childhood. now, can you forgive us fools who dwell under somber skies. oh, how I wish I could have saved just a single tear from Anne Frank's eyes. |
