Darn that Geraldo! He'd better watch out or nobody's gonna take him seriously any more, ha ha!

On the other hand he DID sleep with Bet Midler, and Peter Arnett probably didn't.

Thanks Troll

What a shock, Geraldo of all people trying to scoop the military. Ego Uber Alles.

Well- if he did it, he deserves getting booted. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Maybe he could just hold up a giant luminescent bulls-eye with a huge "We Are Here------------->" caption painted on it.
I just checked Drudge this a.m. and all they had was the Arnett story. I guess I'm off to refresh and recheck!

Bye bye Geraldo - dipstick that he is. The military unit he was assigned to dropped him off at the border to Kuwait.

Reporters "embedded" in the military is a patently stupid idea. This proves it.

I happened to see that report as it happened and my first thought was, "What a dumbfuck!" But then that's always my first thought when I see Geraldo.

BTW, does anyone want Geraldo's nuts on a fish like Kendall says they do with Peter Arnett?

Ummmm... not to ruin the party or anything, 'cause I'm surely not a huge fan of Geraldo and his Al-Capone's-vault style of reporting, but I just saw Geraldo say that he had NOT in fact been kicked out and that rival news agencies had started the rumour to damage him. So I guess the jury's still out on this, eh?

Geraldo was not "embedded" - He was allowed to travel with the force, but was not a participant in the "embedded" program.

He crossed a pretty serious line - it could cause serious human casualty .... he certainly should have known better, and it is clearly at least VERY poor judgement on his part ... and knowing Geraldo, I would guess it is simply very poor judgement on his part.

He claims that it ain't so but I understand that he has been escorted back to Kuwait by the 101st.
I saw the show in question. He drew a map in the sand showing where the unit he was with was located and where they were going. Thats not ignorant. Thats not dumb.

U.S. National - AFP

Celebrity TV journalist Geraldo Rivera kicked out of
                      Iraq: Pentagon
Mon Mar 31, 2:04 PM ET

Add U.S. National - AFP to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Celebrity television journalist Geraldo Rivera, who
has been on assignment covering the US-led war in Iraq (news - web sites),
has been told by US military officials that he is no longer welcome to
                      accompany US troops there.

"I can confirm that it has been done," said
                                          military spokesman Navy Lieutenant
                                          Commander Charles Owens on Monday,
contacted at Central Command headquarters in
                                          Qatar.

Owens said Rivera, a star of the Fox News
television network, was not embedded with
troops, but had been "asked to leave the unit he
                                          was with."

Military officials were short on details about
reasons for Rivera's dismissal, but according to
US news reports, Rivera was told to leave Iraq
after an on-air appearance during which he drew
a map in the sand revealing information about
                                          US troop locations.

Military officials would not confirm the reason
                                          for the move however.

"We're suggesting that people call Fox News to
                                          get details," Owens said Monday.

Officials at the network did not return phone
                                          calls for comment early Monday.

Rivera, a fixture on the US media scene for decades, is a veteran foreign
correspondent who has received some of television's highest honors,
including the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and several Emmy
awards, given for excellence in television reporting.

He has become best known in recent years however for tabloid fodder,
particularly during a stint several years ago as host of the prime-time "Rivera
Live" talk show, when he catapulted to national celebrity for his coverage of
                      the OJ Simpson trials.
I chose Reuters because they tend not to be too friendly to the US.

So blame Rivera - it WAS stupid. How many people did his segment get past though? I saw it and kept thinking the anchor or the military guys who were near him were gonna say "Geraldo, don't go there" or somebody'd pull the plug. Nope.

It could be worse. At least he didn't hit the troops with spotlights during a night attack for better pictures. That happened to a friend of mine, I think in Grenada. The Marines shot the spotlights out, of course.

I witnessed Geraldo's antics for many years backstage at CNBC as a production manager. I can only say that the man acts without thinking. I am no longer with the network but I do find it highly insulting that he would blame the "rumors" on his ex-employers.   Geraldo is his own worst enemy, and the day he wakes up and takes responsibility for his actions might be the day that he is taken seriously.   I doubt that day will come.

I, for one, believe the news people should be there, if for no other reason, to give us a first hand look at what is going on. Personally, after the "Gulf of Tonkin" non incident, Watergate, Iran-Contra, Arms for hostages, and "I did not have sex with her" I dont believe a damn word my government tells me.
Have you noticed the lack of coverage of American casualties? If you remember, that was what queered the Viet Nam war. We saw with our own eyes the horror of it all, and we finally said "No mas"

Jenny- I dunno. I saw him with my own eyes around 8:45 this morning saying that the "rumours of his demise were extremely premature." The story, as Fox tells it (don't even go there most of you- I already KNOW what you think of Fox) is that he is currently under investigation for what he drew in the sand (that part is not disputed) and that he may face expulsion at a later date if General Wyeth (sp?) decides that he endangered the troops. He is still with the 101st Airborne, though. So I guess that's the truth as we know it.

I first thought that Geraldo was a less-than-competent person way back in the seventies, when he chased a pimp down a street in Akron, Ohio, shouting for an interview with the guy.

I understand that he also has a law degree.

Fox and Geraldo claimed they reached an "agreement" with the military and thet Geraldo would leave. Apparently it was important to him that he leave on his own, rather then have the miliraty escort him out.

Kendall there are published lists of the casualties and they are updated daily. Each of the news service websites has a link to them. Thank God we've been lucky enough to date, to have comparitivel low casualties - though that may change with the heavy battles just begining.

I also agree that the embedded journalists are a blessing. It will help the military get the real truth out about what is happening around those reporters - of course it is a a double edged sword; it will also get the truth out about things that don't go well around them. It will keep them honest, no doubt.

Nonsense. A far more fitting "reward" would be to take away his camera and makeup, give him a rifle (single shot, preferably) and put him with one of the units whose position he disclosed.

It is stuff like this that was the reason that journalists were not with front-line troops in '91.

What a crock...

Kendall, you believed the Government well enough to spend a number of years working for it and I don't suppose you send back your pension check each month. Do you also not believe that the amount on the check is correct?
As for casualties, you can believe the published lists or you can believe the Iraqi Minister of Information. According to THEM our troops are being killed by the thousands. Oh yeah, and in one day they destroyed 196 of our missiles. Of course we hadn't fired that many that day but you know how confused things get during a bombardment.

Troll, what kind of convoluted logic is that? One of the reasons I don't trust the government is because I was there!
Furthermore, I'm talking about body bags, not figures and web sites. It's the scenes of dead Americans that stopped the Viet Nam war; no one is going to get upset over Iraqi dead, after all, they are just foreigners.

Given its history of lies and mis information, do you think we should still believe?

Last night, Jay Leno on the Tonight Show did a segment called something like 'Through History with Geraldo Rivera'.

It featured Geraldo outside the gates of Troy, informing his viewers that little did the inhabitants of the city know that the huge horse shown behind him was filled with warriors who were going to exit the horse after everyone was asleep and slaughter everybody.

(Guess what- I've totally spaced out the second event but it was a good one. I do remember it was a long time after the first one, historically speaking .)

Finally, it showed him in Amsterdam telling the viewers that he was standing in front of the very building where the Anne Frank family was hiding from the Nazis.

Is it true that Geraldo Rivera was kicked out of the war zone by the Americans for disclosing future attack plans on T.V? I always figured him to be a Dick Head, and that his actions endangered genuine reporters and if this is true it proves my theory.
