Frank,

There is an articles for sale section at www.banjohangout.org. I'm sure that there would be someone there who would be serious about it.

It is a very fine banjo.
Roger Sprung buys and sells 5-string banjos I know that he is particularly interested in Gibson Mastertones. His adress is Rt. 5, Papoose Hill Rd. Newtown, Copnnecticut 06470. Phone 203 426-5243.
Give him a call and tell him Jody referred him to you. Off hand Id say it's worth at least $800.00.

Jody Gibson.

Ok...But what is it? RB-100, 150, 175, 250, 800?

I'll bet it's gone by now, eh Frank?

I was gonna ask if it was a 'bow-tie" but probably doesn't matter now.

Cheers

soorry...was gone for a day....It is a regular Mastertone...mid 60's serial Nr 403017. I boought it in 1989. It had a crack in the neck and a luthier in Portland reglued it and it has been excellent in every way. Mark Dvorak, from Chicago, played it when he was here and told me it was perfect..Jody Stecher also told me how good it was....I have no use for it as I have an inexpensive Deering and I don't play it that well. I want to give mudcatters a chance to buy it....I'm asking $750 plus shipping...will send a few photos to those interested...It just sits here begging to be played by someone better than I........Frank of Toledo

One way to do this would be to enter it in the Mudcat auction... on items placed there, the seller gets to decide how much or how little to donate to Mudcat from the proceeds, so even just a tiny fraction of a fraction would not only help Mudcat but let bidders have a little fun with each other and help you manage the process of sorting out/communicating with interested parties. You also can post a picture there quite easily.

Ok...All Gibson Mastertone 5-Strings are "Reg. Banjos," hence the RB in the model number. What I need is the number that comes after the RB, like...RB-150 RB-250. I have cash in my little hand for another Mastertone, if it's the right model.

$750.00 for any gibson Mastertone is a fine value. I would take this slowly. A picture and talk about the instroment may be worth your while. I got a 1925 ball bearing with a japanees neck and was very happy to pay $1800.00 for it. Lets figure out what model this is and make shore you get a kind mudcat price for it . !! All the best to all here, Guy

The model number is VERY important - an RB3 could be a lot more expensive than an RB250 for example. If you get on the BANJO-L list for a couple of weeks and inquire on there, someone will tell you exactly what it is and maybe what would be a fair price to ask for it. There are some very knowledgeable helpful people on there. The list rules mean you can't offer it for sale on there, though. The other possibility is the alt.banjo newsgroup, where there are fewer rules. The Mugwumps website has a very good page for selling old banjos, frequented by a lot of banjo players.
