28 Apr 03 - 09:15 AM (#941816) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: trayton I enjoyed Les Sullivan's song writing workshop well worth going to if you can catch him doing it again. For me the late session in the bar was the star . I know that Bill McKinnon and Paul Hodgson were leading most of the tunes but I was sat there in the middle playing along and we did get the locals cheering and stamping and they even turned the juke box off. I was still grinning by the time I got home. Well done Glen, Tim and Pete (and I haven't even mentioned the marquee) |
28 Apr 03 - 11:12 AM (#941903) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: trayton Previous post should read Paul Hodgon, sorry Paul |
28 Apr 03 - 12:15 PM (#941945) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: GUEST,MCP Hodgen I think! Mick |
28 Apr 03 - 02:21 PM (#942056) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: Herga Kitty It says Hodgon on his CD ... Well done Glen, Tim and Pete. I hope everyone (including Paul) has recovered from the marquee workshop. Les's songwriting workshop really was interesting. MCP - what key do I sing Summertime in? - because I picked the wrong one when I tried to sing it in the bar..... and the bad news was that Leadfingers had turned up in time to accompany it in the wrong key on whistle. Kitty |
28 Apr 03 - 02:41 PM (#942067) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: GUEST,MCP Sorry about that Paul - faulty memory! Summertime in Gm if I remember correctly - look in song database and see if it's in there. Mick |
28 Apr 03 - 03:10 PM (#942090) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: Herga Kitty Oops, sorry Tel, I didn't mean there was anything wrong with the whistle playing, only with singing in the wrong key. MCP - I had a quick look at an old song list and couldn't find Summertime, but I haven't checked the Access version. I suspect I confused the start note and the key though - I think I normally start on C natural. Tel thought that means A minor, but I've just experimented on the piano, and I think it might have been F minor..... Off to see Brian Peters now. Kitty |
28 Apr 03 - 04:14 PM (#942137) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: GUEST,MCP If you start on C that is indeed Fm. I might have played it in Gm (starting on D as highest note) for you and you might have wanted to move it down to Fm (highest note C). Mick |
28 Apr 03 - 06:45 PM (#942264) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: Herga Kitty Mick Yes, exactly..... you'd probably have noticed on account of not using a capo (I seem to remember that Les, during his songwriting workshop, mentioned someone who'd criticised a guitarist as not being very good because he didn't use a capo.) Kitty PS Brian Peters was very good, and didn't use a capo either. |
30 Apr 03 - 08:27 AM (#943428) Subject: RE: Charity Evening Uxbridge U.K. From: trayton well not on the concertina or melodeon |
