As a follow-up to David W. Scotese's solid essay (click) on Robert Johnson's alleged crossroads deal with the devil (or with Papa Legba), note that there is a new book, "Robert Johnson: Lost and Found," that investigates all of the fanciful portrayals of Johnson, not just the demonized portrayal. The book is not yet available, but some people apparently are getting it from internet retailers.

And, David, shouldn't the quote at the top of your essay be attributed to LeDell Johnson, Tommy's brother? I don't believe any reliable witness or any fellow musician ever heard Tommy speak those words. The quote, as I recall, was included in a story told by LeDell to folklorist David Evans.

This sounds interesting. Can you make sure you post again when you know who is selling the book?
