I find myself in Wilmington for the next couple of weeks. Are there any folk music venues or singarounds in the vicinity? I like trad english and Scots. Could travel to Philly given good directions.

Thanks

This is the place, but there may not be much on when you're there. But contact them and see if they know of what else is happening.

Make sure you find these radio stations:

WVUD University of Delaware, not sure of the call numbers. They have some folkshows on Saturday mornings, I believe.

WXPN, University of Pennsylvania 88.5 FM. Sunday 4 - 8PM, the Gene SHay Folkshow. Saturday night, The Blues Show starting at 10PM, I believe.

WHYY Public radio 90.9FM Good music on Saturday nights starting with A Prairiae Home Companion at 6, Thistle and Shamrock at 8, American Routes at 9, and AfroPop Worldwide at 11PM.

Are you listening Russ? Fill in information about WVUD please. Lets make sure this 'catter doesn't miss anything while visiting.

You can also send me a Personal Message and I'll try to find out other things.

Also, you are not too ( hour and a half - two hours, depending on traffic conditions )far from Baltimore and Washington DC.

I hope you can drop by the Brandywind Dulcimer Fellowship Meeting and learn a little something about a truly American folk instrument. Give Bob and Betty a call, in Russ'message, I'm sure they can arrange a ride for you if needed. We'd be mighty pleased to have you come! I come there and so does Russ.

Walking Eagle.

P.S. Don't forget to visit David Bromberg's Violin shop in downtown Wilmington.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Looks like I need to tune in to radio on Saturday (if its anything like last Saturday's rain then I'll have nothing much else to do anyway).

Sadly the dulcimer club will next be on Friday 4th July I guess (first Friday right?) when I'll be gone (leaving on the 3rd). Incidentally my wife plays a hammered dulcimer, but then she's a few thousand miles away...

I haven't got to the violin shop but did feel moved to buy a guitar from Accent music on 202 so have some means of making music.

O'Friels on Delaware Ave. used to have music sometimes (in the early '90s...), though it may have been under the aegis of the Green Willow. Worth a call, anyway, if they're still there. Margaret

What about the Mudcat? Wilmington is on 30 minutes away from West Chester! I'm running an open mic now in West Chester on Wednesday nights. As soon as I can get the coffee shop we do it at to get a net connection, we're going to bring back Mudcat Radio from there. Contact me if you come to Wilmington. I'll show you my laundry room, where the Mudcat is now HQ'd.

Max - perhaps it wasn't clear but I am already in Wilmington until June 25th. Will potentially be able to come by Wed, work permitting. Where precisely is the coffee shop in West Chester please?

Maregret V; O'Friels has been closed about a year now.

Max, what coffee shop? I've been to your brewery but didn't see you there!

Ed

At least you will have info for the next time you come! There are 'catters here to get together with if we know in time.

Thanks for letting me know, UB Ed. Yes, 10-year old information has its dangers... I saw a few good shows at O'Friel's, including, if memory serves, Martin Carthy and the Watersons, including a young Eliza on the fiddle. Margaret

Max, what's the deal on the open mic night? I'm running up and down 202 between Wilmington and Valley Forge. You are on the way! But where?
