My 80 year old Mum (bless her) is trying to remember the words to a song she sang as a child. It's a tough one as all she can remember is the first line being; "moon, moon, beautiful moon" and there is also something about children sleeping and the moon comes peeping!! Yes my Mum was raised in Australia - but I don;t think it's a traditional Aussie song - I think it may have been a lullaby. The first verse was definitely Moon, moon, beautiful moon. The first line, to my knowledge is: "Shadows are falling and daylight is passed, Beautiful evening is with us at last," -I cannot remember the next two lines, only the tune. The Chorus as I remember: "Moon, moon,beautiful moon, Rising, rising,rising still, Over the City and over the hill And creeping and peeping where children lie sleeping, Moon, beautiful moon. I think there is another verse but cannot remember it. I sang it at a Methodist Sunday school anniversary about fourty-five years ago. |

We had 7 girls called Susan in our class (!) and one of these Susans used to sing this as a 'party-piece'. I remember only the words to the 'chorus' but I remember all the tune and could write this out quite easily. |
