BS: Twice as blessed!!!!!

07 Jul 03 - 02:20 PM (#978447)
Subject: BS: Twice as blessed!!!!!
From: Pseudolus

A while back I started a thread anonymously ("I could use a little help") asking for good thoughts and prayers cause my wife and I were trying to have a baby and all attempts had failed. I recently added that we were finally successful and expecting twins but at my wife's request we weren't telling anyone so I had to stay anonymous. Well, the wait is over, I can FINALLY spread the news! It's me! Or should I say us! We're having twins, the due date is Jan. 21st but the doctor tells us that the "tax deduction" gods will most likely be with us cause twins normally come early!!! Two Christmas babies! Who could have asked for more than that?!?!?!

Not that it was all that much of a secret and I'm sure no one was holding their breath trying to figure out who was having twins but there you have it....Pseudolus and KarenB are with child...or should I say with childs!!!!

Way to go! You said a mouthful when you said twice as blessed. I love my 3 (soon to be 4) boys unlike anything you could ever imagine. One of them (the stubborn one) came on January 4th, 2000. Guess how many people asked if my husband and I were trying to have the millenium baby? I can honestly say that was pretty far from our minds when he was conceived.
The third one arrived on December 31st at 3:16p.m. His initials are T.D.L. (and I SWEAR the t.d. does NOT stand for tax deduction. It's just a happy coincidence!)
God Bless you ALL and enjoy every minute because as trite as it sounds, the time DOES fly!!!!

Congratulations X 2, Pseudolus! You're in for a real adventure -- double the trouble and double the fun!! My identical twins are 21 now, they still look very similiar, they still fight hard, they still make sure their hair is cut differently, and they've learned to avoid those trouble-making girls who want to play "both fields".

I'll never forget the last couple months of that pregnancy. My belly was so huge it was resting on my knees, and they seemed to wake up as soon as I'd lie down. It felt like an octopus in there with all those arms and legs flailing around, struggling for position. I'd watch them, thinking my belly looked like the rolling ocean waves. They were doing Jiu Jitsu before they even left the womb ...

Congratulations again to both of you, and thanks for the memories.

LOL, daylia, that's what my daughter looked like and felt, too!

Congratulations, Frank and Karen! I am so glad that things have worked out for you and you have two of them to look forward to. Do get as much rest now as possible 'cause you are going to be flyin' after they are born! My grandsons are just now 5 and I don't think my daughter and her husband have stopped much at all in those five years.:-) Though, from what they say and what my parents said about my sisters, twins are good at entertaining one another you just have to keep an eye out for what they decide to entertain with!Haha.

Oh, joy!

Congratulations! One of the frustrations my daughter had with her twins (age 13 now) was that when one of them would get in trouble for something, the other would immediately commit the same crime. My daughter said she never has quite figured out the rationale on that.

On the other hand, she says that if she knew it would be twins again, she'd try for another pregnancy, that this time it would be fun.

I'm happy for you. The best of luck to all of you.

Congratulations!
Now, to counteract all the scare stories people are telling you!
1. My sister was born when our mother was 39. She's an honors graduate of the University of Chicago, and she was 15th in her law school class, working days and going to school nights.
2. My friend Emily's first child was a breach. He was supposed to be a c-section, but he got there before the surgeon did. There's nothing the matter with him, except he plays ice hockey.

My grandfather was a fraternal twin. He was born in 1880. When the family's church had a bazaar, they had a display of the McCallister twins, two dolls labeled Edgar and Edna. That's how grandaddy got his name. His parents had been planning on naming him Edbert. Don't do that to your twins, and good luck!

Two suggestions I'd like give you. First - everytime you go to the store pick up diapers of all sizes so you'll have a supply when they get here. And second - every time you cook make a double batch and freeze some of it so when the babies arrive you'll have something to eat. You won't have the time or energy to cook when they get here. Trust me.

Wow! Thanks for all of the kind thoughts! I do plan on stocking up on sleep, diapers, frozen meals.....all good suggestions! We are pretty excited along with my two daughters (11 and 14) who are busily coming up with names....   Speaking of names, I jokingly told my in-laws that we weren't taking suggestions for names unless they were written on a package of pampers! I thought it was pretty funny....turns out it was pretty smart. even though my family knows that I was kidding, we have received 5 packages from different members of my family already and apparently more are on the way!! I love my family!!

My dad was quite a character! His name was Vance, so he told all his friends that the twins would be named Vance and Advance.

Also, at coffee club each morning, when a friend would be bursting with pride and telling all about his new grandbaby, my dad would say, "Oh, just one?"

We didn't know until the last minute that we were having twins, so we didn't have names. They went six days without a name! The hospital staff said I had to name them before we could go home. Charles and David

I was getting my taxes done, and a tired-looking moke and his wife and two howling babies were standing at the bar next to me, and the accountant's assistant was talking to him. As I was waiting on my turn I heard her tell him he was wise enough to plan ahead, and have his babies in December, because he could deduct for the whole of the year. Before he could say ary a peep his wife blurted: "He never thought ahead a day in the last ten years! It was just St. Patrick's day!" His face is likely still red.

Something we've really enjoyed was a baby monitor with a built in TV camera. You can watch everything they are doing from anywhere in the house - and they work well in the dark too. You can even work in the back yard when they are napping and know exactly when they wake up and need you. We got ours as a gift but I seem to think that they sell for around $125.00 US. Well worth the money if you ask me.

Many congratulations. My advice is to not bother with "newborn" size baby clothes. Even if they are born on the small side, they'll outgrow those baby pelts in a flat minute, The one thing babies don't do is shrink. *g*

They only shrink your bank balance!!!

If you can, or if there are enough people near you, get into a circle of friends who also have children a few months older than yours.... hand me downs can go a long way!! Bratling and I got into such a group and last I saw, one of the dresses I made her at 6 months is still doing the rounds 6 years later.

On names...visualize teenagehood, and don't name them anything that will backfire in the future. We named our oldest Ruth...but she unilaterally changed it when she was 14 because she was tired of "Ruthie" and "Baby Ruth" (a US candy bar). And what ever you do, don't give then "twin names"

I'm getting much better advice from this thread than I am from my friends and family!! I've had name suggestions like, if they're both boys, Pete and rePete, or the suggestion that it doesn't matter what you call the first one out but when the second one comes out, Call it quits!! As you can imagine we've been having a BLAST with all of the jokes and the laughs.....hopefully that'll continue after they're born. Just add a few yawns to the laughs!!

You have all been great, I always wonder if starting a thread about myslef and my situation is a little self-serving. It may still be, but your thoughts and comments kinda make it worth it!!!

Thanks,

OK, I promise I'll let this thread go off into the sunset after this post (of course a birth announcement thread will take it's place later!) but I do have to tell you all the latest....we had a level two Ultrasound and the verdict is in....they're both boys! Omigod!!!!! I know what to do with girls, I've had practice!! But boys?!?!?! Actually we were all quite shocked at first, in fact my daughter who was rooting for girls just cried! She was devastated, but she was promised a shopping trip for boys clothes by my sister-in-law and now she's thrilled! As are the rest of us!! We have names but I'll save that for the birth announcment later!

So anyway, just had to tell ya. Thanks again for indulging my on this one!!!

Congrats, Pseudolus! Get ready for some non-stop action .... (my twin boys were born running, born fighting too)

If I had to do it all again, I'd break down and buy myself a double-header leash. WHen they started walking (read running), I had about 2 years of trying to chase after them in two directions at once.

And here's a little tip -- if they are identical twins and even you have trouble telling them apart, try dressing them consistently in different colors. I'd buy the same styles (cuz it's cute), but always dressed Eric in red (easy to remember ie Eric the Red), and Chris in blue. I think this saved their lives a couple times.

I remember one winter's day when they were almost 2. I hadn't stuck to my "color scheme", was buckling the car seats in so I could take them to town. Turned around, and here one of them was running down the driveway full-speed towards the road. There was a car approaching about 10 feet away, and I knew the driver couldn't see him because the snow-banks were about 5 feet high. Panicked, I raced down the driveway calling his name, couldn't understand why he ignored me and kept running ... till I caught up with him and grabbed him. My feet slid on the ice, I fell on my butt with him on my lap, and that car missed us both by about 6 inches ... no kidding. Then I realized I'd been calling the wrong name -- so that's why he'd "ignored" me!

I'll never forget the look on that driver's face -- I think we scared him about as much as he'd scared me!

Anyway, congrats again to you both (or rather, all 4 of you!) and best wishes ...

My sister-in-law sayw there are CUTER clothes for baby boys!

daylia, I dressed my fraternal twins in red for one blue for the other (works for toys too). When they finally left home they couldn't wait to buy the "other" color!

Frank, IMO boys are easier to raise than girls.

Congratulations, Frank! My identical twin grandsons started kindergarten this fall. I agree with daylia, get a double leash for them. I used to scoff at people who put their kids on a tether, but after hearing what my daughter went through, trying to keep the two of them together, was just too much, sometimes, without some kind of aid. Of course when their dad was home from work it wasn't necessary.:-)

My daughter and her husband use different colours, too, but they don't have just one colour for either boy. Their personalities are distinct and their facial expressions, etc. so they usually don't have a problem telling them apart. (Though in a case as daylia mentions, it would be difficult!) Having grown up with sisters who were identical and who wore the same outfits, same colour, I can say I think one develops a sense of how to tell them apart. I used to get so frustrated when their friends owuld ask me how I could tell who was who. I grew up with them that way, so they just were.:-) Maybe it was younger sibling thing...they were there before me. We had a famous family story about our dad spanking the wrong twin, one time!

Good luck and happy times! Oh, and be sure to let them have pictures of them as individuals, too!
