I just heard Dr Andy Kershaw talking about Willie Nelson on BBC Radio 4's arts programme, "Front Row". Nice to hear that the University of East Anglia has awarded Andy a doctorate - I hope Ralphie's pleased too.

Have re-set cookie too, now. I assume it was an honorary doctorate for services to World Music, but I didn't catch the complete intro.

Yes Kitty I heard it too, and also managed to miss the reason for his being honoured. I thought his criticisms of the album were very valid, and I grinned at the remark about Shania Twain. I didn't think much of Andy when he first appeared on the scene, as he used to be too much into the pop music side, but both he and I have matured, and I regard him now as an expert on, and enthusiast for world music,[I hate the term!] Consequently he's grown on me, but I still can't stand his sister.

He's come a long way from being Billy Bragg's roadie, then!
I used to enjoy listening to Andy Kershaw years back, but these days never seem to get time to listen to anything on the wireless.
Quack!
GtD.

Oi! Quackers! Use the BBC website's replay service and listen to it on your computer. 'S marvellous. But you've probably only got 7 days from the date of broadcast. Get your skates on.

Giok,
What else would you prefer to call world music?

"Local Music from out there" or has that been done? :-)

Yes, Andy Kershaw has come a long way from being Billy Bragg's roadie (don't think I knew that), and Billy has come a long way from being the 3 song interval spot at a Hank Wangford gig, which was the first place I saw/heard him.

All music is world music, including Rap, Hip Hop, Fado, Scottish mouth music, and English traditional folk music. That is why I don't like the name, it's too all embracing, and totally non specific. No I don't know what I'd call it instead, but Portuguese Fado seems like a good description for that type of music from Portugal. Simple and concise.

Well Kitty...First I've heard of it too....!

But, I wouldn't want him as my GP...(even less so, Surgeon!)

Congrats to the cantankerous old bugger nonetheless.

Cheers Ralphie
