I have heard this song performed by Burl Ives, but can't seem to find it on the internet anywhere.

"Oh yes, sir, oh please, sir, hold out to me your hand
You have many a fortune in many a far-off land..."

See this earlier discussion: Lyr Add: Gypsy Girl, which includes a text from an American performer, Charlie Poole, and a link to the slightly mangled set in the DT. I supplied proper attribution for that text, which the DT does not give, a midi file of the tune (the link no longer works, but perhaps the file will re-appear in time), and a reference to broadside editions of the song. Ignore the links at the head of the DT file, incidentally; they are all to other references to the Carter family, whose input into that particular text seems to have been minimal; unless, I suppose, whoever originally supplied it happened to sing it to a tune he got from them, but failed to quote.

I don't know where Burl Ives got the set he recorded, though.
