BS: Impeach Joe Offer

10 Aug 03 - 10:05 PM (#1000017)
Subject: BS: Impeach Joe Offer
From: artbrooks

A certain member of the non-existant "Mudcat Inner Circle" has recently been refreshing old threads containing the word/number million, allegedly because Mudcat has just reached the figure of one million posts, threads, members, or discussions on either California politics or the PEL situation in the UK. Right-thinking (or left-thinking, if you swing that way) Mudcat habituees, used to that certain individual's pointed comments on repetitive birthday threads, CD promotions, and other such redundencies, are aghast at this gratuitous misuse of his alleged power over Mudcat content.   Arise, Mudcatters! Do in this dastard! Make him run for governor of California! {A fate generally agreed to be worse than death}

Sorry, Art, but the deadline to file for the Californa governor thing was yesterday. We wuz, like, 64 of the required 65 signatures short and the fund for the $3,500 filing fee had 27ยข in it. The only way we could get Joe in now would be to stage one of them coupe de villes or whatever it's called. Somebody still might wanna write a campaign song, though, just to keep in reserve in case it's ever needed.

so, no jokes about making California "an Offer it can't refuse"?

He would be a lousy governor, anyway...he keeps making sense, and they wouldn't know how to deal with it.

Well, I got the millionth message. I was surprised that there wasn't any notice beforehand, so I thought we should do something. So, I found all the threads we had that had the word "million" in them, and opened about a dozen of them and typed messages. Then I hit all the "submit" buttons, one after another.
As luck would have it, I got the one-millionth message - in a thread about fraud. I guess that does qualify me to be Governor of California....

-Joe Offer-

I was hoping the millionth message would land in the thread that has the lyrics to If I Had a Million Dollars, one of my favorite recent songs.

Joe...there WAS notice beforehand..*grin*...I mentioned early this week that we were approaching it...but I didn't start a special thread, hoping **I** could sneak in...but then got distracted.

And to make this a music thread, though not folk:

"A million to one
They say we're too young to know the meaning of love.
A million to one
Bet they've forgotten the dreams that we're dreaming of
But we'll forgive them because we love them
After all is said and done
They're one in a million
A million to one..."

Okay, here it is:

The Official Superfluous, Unnecessary, Day Late and 3,499+ Dollars Short....

Joe Offer for Governor Campaign Song

**********

We got no money
We got no money
We got no dough and that is why we need Joe

We need Joe Offer
To fill our coffer
Our state is broke and Joe's the guy in the know

(Bridge)
Look here at my electrical bill,
Can't by a house for under a mill

Now listen, Honey
This shit ain't funny
Davis and Enron put our ass in a sling

Our state is bleeding
We need some leading
Let's put Joe Offer's ass in charge of the thing

**********

(No, I don't wanna be nobody's campaign manager so don't ask. Last time I tried that someone mistook my candidate for the main course at a Memorial Day barbecue in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Never try to get a pig elected to public office. Joe Offer, yes. Potbellied pig, no.)

Write in!!! Write in!!!
Write the right* in!!!

2-4-6-8
Who's the one to castigate?
JOE OFFER! (He's used to it from MC.)

Offer, Offer, he's the man
He can't do it, but then no one can either, given the mess California's in!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY, Joe!

*Confusing, ain't it? You don't know Joe's politics from that. What is meant is "right" in the sense of "good, ethical" but both sides of the political aisle can vote write in his name.

I am reminded of one of my favorite Dilbert cartoons. Dilbert castigates Wally for abuse of power. Wally replies, "Why else would anybody want it?"

Impeach JOe during his BirthMONTH? How Crass - let's just wait until his birthmonth is over and THEN impeach him. It's much more civilized.

But don't we have to get him elected first?

ahhh...Joe Offer is a long-time Mudcatter who was so clever and helpful that Max promoted him to "chief thread-watcher, monitor and editor of things BS-ish (when necessary)...he 'can' delete threads, edit stuff and generally help oversee the day-to-day running of this zoo.

Joe has several helpers called 'Joe clones' who do a slightly lower level version of these tasks, and above Joe are Max and Pene Azul (Jeff)(chief programmer and Lord High Techie) who have access to the Mudcat program itself.

Joe is the name you see most often and is a man of 'almost' infinite patience..(but don't test his limits..*grin*)

Wait a minute! Joe himself said that he posted the one millionth message to the 'Cat. Isn't that enough of a birthmonth present??

dang! That computer sub-routine Max whipped up a few years ago is getting pretty good, isn't it? Not only does it have a pack of humans attempting to reproduce its work, it's now giving itself birthmonth presents!   Why does a bunch of electrons reequire a birthmonth present anyway? Has Max actually managed to produce the first electronic sapience?

Whoops! Forgot - we are all suppossed to pretend the 'Joe Offer' is a retired civil servant. Wouldn't want my Mudcat priviliges with

I, too, noticed the approach of the one-millionth message, and I posted a question about it on the Mudcat Help & Trouble Forum back on July 1. It came sooner than I expected, though.

You know, come to think of it, with California havin' a whole lot more people than a lotta countries and since most of those people purty much do what they damn well please anyway, why not just skip the governor thing and elect a PRESIDENT????

JOE OFFER FOR PRESIDENT OF CALIFORNIA!!!!

I got home from Alaska yesterday and picked up my sample ballot with the mail today. The California election seems a hopeless mess. With that many candidates, it's probable somebody will get elected on a small percentage of the total vote.
So if anybody wants to write me in, go ahead.
Ya never know.
