Does anyone remember a Rolf Harris song from the seventies entitled Sunrise? My daughter needs the lyrics for school, so if anyone could help I'd be most grateful.

SUN ARISE
Sun arise, she bring in the morning.
Sun arise, bring in the morning, fluttering her skirts all around.
Sun arise, she come with the dawning.
Sun arise, come with the dawning, spreading all the light all around.
Sun arise, on the kangaroo paw.
Sun arise, on the kangaroo paw, glistening the dew all around.
Sun arise, filling all the hollows,
Sun arise, filling all the hollows, lighting up the hills all around.
Sun arise, come with the dawning,
Sun arise, she come every day.
Sun arise, bring in the morning,
Sun arise, every, every, every, every, day.
She drive away the darkness, every day,
Drive away the darkness,
Bringing back the warmth to the ground.
Sun arise, oh, oh,
Sun arise, oh, oh,
Spreading all the light all around.
Sun arise, bring in the morning.
Sun arise, bring in the morning, spreading all the light all around.
First record I ever bought!!!

Here ye be, laddie bucko! (sorry, it's International Talk Like a Pirate Day and I can't help it.)

You can get the lyrics from the horse's mouth: Rolf's lyrics page for Sun Arise

And just in case it disappears, here they are:

SUN ARISE
(Rolf Harris)

I said to my partner who was searching the net for the lyrics, "Why don't I just ask my friends on Mudcat, someone's bound to know"
As usual you've delivered!
Thank you!
C-flat

I'm a little concerned at being a whole decade out with the age of the song. I must be older than I think.

£95000? Shiver me timbers!!!

I used to love those "can you tell what it is yet?" impressions that Rolf did on his TV show.
I seem to recall that Rolf has a daughter who is held in some regard artisticly.

I have his autograph, complete with his self portrait. He was touring NZ selling paint in 1959 and we saw him in a local paint/hardware shop, painting the old stockman lying, dying. Then he played a wobble board and sang Tie me Kangaroo....
At the time we thought he was a bit strange but that was before he was famous!

This song (and it's history) was discussed on a thread maybe 12 to 18 months ago? - about Aboriginal / Indigenous Music, I think ...
Written by Harry Butler and Rolf, but based on the real thing - I think that info is on his website anyway ...

It's what we call an Indian Song - seminal.

(Seminole - get it?!)
Yeah, okay, but I'm not altogether well, at present!!

Cheers!

Rolf Harris was also the last "victim" to be phoned by Dr Who (Tom Baker version) on BBC Radio 4's "Dead Ringers". Of course on a radio show doing impressions of famous people you can't be entirely sure that the interviewee was the real Rolf Harris...

Did you know

Alice Cooper did a version of Sun Arise on his album

`Love it to death' just after 'the ballad of Dwight Fry'

Would love to see his version of 'Dead Babies' dressed as Jake the Peg
