Robin Burns sings it.

Not speeding up to lethargy?

Kevin - have you heard it?

I think it might be by Robert Service (if not, another song that Robin sings is!).

This parody of "Rolling Down to Old Maui" is overdone, although it might have utility if it were being used as a capstan shanty for two or three hours of heaving them pawls.

Hilary Spencer does a grat job of singing this one. Brings tears to my eyes.

Thanks. Oh well, at least I've been consistent between threads on who I thought I'd heard sing it, even if I got the writing attribution wrong. Now I'm wondering which Robert Service concoction Robin was singing.

At Cleckheaton FF 2002 Hilary Spencer sang it fronting 40 of the Shellback Chorus.

Was well received!!

Yes, SDTL is a parody from the pen of Toby Fagenson (I think he's from the US) and I'd agree with John R - and Hilary's rendition on her latest CD is super.
Actually I've also heard Dave Kidman sing it, I think it was at Barnsley, got a great reception. He had an extra verse that fitted the shanty element too. Haven't seen him around much lately though - hope he's not been forced under ground.

If you find the tune a bit too bouncy, you could sing it to Limehouse Reach instead
