01 Dec 03 - 08:00 AM (#1063576) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: sweetfire can we come if we haven't practiced much recently but try our hardest? |
01 Dec 03 - 08:09 AM (#1063582) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags Sweetfire, you and the Pater are always more than welcome at any session that I an involved with.Trying your hardest and doing your best is what counts. Just a small tip before Raggy and the rest of the folk bandits get in on the act, dont mention practising. I did once in an unguarded moment and they were all over me like a bad rash !!!! |
01 Dec 03 - 08:11 AM (#1063586) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: sweetfire Thanks Osson, will remember that. See you sunday. What time does it start? |
01 Dec 03 - 08:25 AM (#1063603) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister 2pm kick off, folks. I'll be there, along with my trusty assistant, the lovely Mrs Rachel DeanMeister, who has been asked by the landlady to attend and help introduce her to all you 'orrible lot so she knows who's who. So if you've offended her in any way in the past, watch out! Your beer could be off. Incidentally, the landlady, Lorraine, has posted on here in the past as 'Specky' |
02 Dec 03 - 02:42 AM (#1064219) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Hand-Pulled Boy Let me sneek into a corner somewhere. I gather it's dark in there! |
02 Dec 03 - 04:04 AM (#1064237) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Raggytash Where is the said establishment in relation to the Minster, not knowing Beverley that well it might be an idea to locate the bar in order that I don't spend half the afternoon wandering the streets |
02 Dec 03 - 04:19 AM (#1064244) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: GUEST,specky looking forward to seeing you all sunday, hope you all enjoy the venue, and hey deany what do you mean!! you know how quiet i am, as if i would be easily offended tut tut. it is located on highgate the cobbled road leading to the minster and the car park entrance is on eastgate between the sun and wednesday market |
02 Dec 03 - 05:00 AM (#1064255) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Raggytash Specky, Thanks for that, still not to certain though, the road I come into Beverley on terminates at the junction by the Minster with the Sun on the opposite sid eof the road. I take it I turn left here and find a car park on the right hand side .....correct? |
02 Dec 03 - 05:09 AM (#1064258) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister From that junction at the Minster, turn left, Raggy. About 200 yards down, on your left hand side, there is an archway leading into a small gravelled car park behind the pub. If you can't get in there, park anywhere along that road, or near the Minster. If you go to T junction, turn left and immediately left again, you'll be on Highgate, cobbled road, going back up towards the Minster. The pub is halfway down on your left. That help? |
02 Dec 03 - 05:11 AM (#1064260) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Sir Roger de Beverley No, turn left and find the carpark on the left - go through an arch just before you reach the Oddfellows on the right. R |
02 Dec 03 - 05:13 AM (#1064262) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic Raggy, good day to you sir! Further directions. Turn left at the junction where the Sun is (Minster on left, Sun in front of you), carry on down the road for about 100 yards and the Car Park is on the left. Carefull, its easy to miss as it is just a small gap between a long row of town houses. If you get as far as the next Pub, Oddfellows, then you have gone to far but stop off and have a pint in there as well cos they are folk friendly too! |
02 Dec 03 - 05:15 AM (#1064263) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic Well, at least there are 3 people who know where it it!! ;-) |
02 Dec 03 - 05:16 AM (#1064265) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic I am willing to compromise at 150 yards if you are Deano :-) |

02 Dec 03 - 05:30 AM (#1064281) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic Though of course, if you were to get pedantic Deano, it would be a matter of honour that I be prepared to wager a glass of Speckys best bitter on the outcome of a "Nearst to the Monks Walk" measuring expedition this lunchtime ;-) in the interests of accuracy of course, and helping out a lost folkie etc etc etc :-) Sir Roger could come as well to do the difficult sums and ensure fair play! |
02 Dec 03 - 05:32 AM (#1064282) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: GUEST,MC Fat Best of luck osson et al would try and attend but the carols take first priority. |
02 Dec 03 - 05:37 AM (#1064286) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister If you can spare the time out of your busy schedule of insurance fraud, I'll be happy to do a lunchtime pint at, say, 12.30? Have your people call my people. |
02 Dec 03 - 05:50 AM (#1064288) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic Have decided that "insurance fraud" doesnt pay enough, 12.30 in the Monks Walk sounds like a much better offer!! See ya there :-) |

04 Dec 03 - 07:04 AM (#1065368) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Who you calling an oxymoron, phatboy? |

04 Dec 03 - 07:32 AM (#1065383) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper No thanks Specky me dearie, I hate christmas decorations any time before 23rd December - they are just way too depressing! |
04 Dec 03 - 07:44 AM (#1065391) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags Leave this to me Deany, let us act calmly. I believe McFat has been clearly ambiguous and acted with acute dullness when he used "loud bugger" as an oxymoron for cooooooooooooolest singer In my unbiased opinion it would have been better for this serious musician to have stuck to the non alcholoic wine and pointed his passive agression at other unsung heroes. I forsee this sunday to be terribly enjoyable with me as your guest host and I will, as usual act naturally and be simply superb. |
04 Dec 03 - 07:56 AM (#1065400) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: GUEST,MC Fat Loud bugger is a term of endearment osson much like fat bastard is to moi !!! |
04 Dec 03 - 07:56 AM (#1065402) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper Are there going to be lots of tune smiths there as well as songsters then? |
04 Dec 03 - 09:24 AM (#1065442) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister I sincerely hope so, BottieWiper. Am assured that the Purple Helmet Brigade will be in attendance, Oakers, Skippy, Whistle Division, Wastling. Might even entice Wattie down, who knows? Bring the War Pipes, they'll sound ACE in there. Also, have recruited Dickie the Uillean piper for a tune or two. Can't let these blinkin singers take over the proceedings....come in force, chaps! |
04 Dec 03 - 12:35 PM (#1065537) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags Smallpipes, you know with me at the helm everyone is welcome and is given a chance - no one takes over the proceedings. It would be a pity if this starts turning into a competition singers versus musicians.Thought we had come farther than that |
05 Dec 03 - 02:50 AM (#1065866) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Hand-Pulled Boy Upstairs in Nellies on Saturday night. At £2 a head it's a steal - He, He, He, He, He . . . . . Flatmates, harriWatts band, CowfisH, late bar applied for plus extra candles . . . . . . . Oh yeh coal and gas . . . . . . . . |
05 Dec 03 - 03:20 AM (#1065878) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: KJ Don't know yet if we'll be there, depends how I'm getting on with assignments. |
05 Dec 03 - 04:13 AM (#1065899) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags As you know we moved the session to 3.00pm at the "Sun" I feel we should move back to the 2.00pm start at the new venue. Is every one ok with that? |
05 Dec 03 - 04:33 AM (#1065910) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Yup! And don't worry about competition, Michael, I was only joking. This session has always been a lovely mix of songs AND tunes. 2pm kick-off. Mick's the referee. I'll bring the body armour. |
05 Dec 03 - 04:35 AM (#1065914) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: GUEST,specky its ok with me cooooooooooooooooolest x |

05 Dec 03 - 05:55 AM (#1065940) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Christmas decs are up in Monks, people. May I suggest you dust off your Christmas Carols....? (wonder if Maggie will bring the mulled wine again..?) |
05 Dec 03 - 06:53 AM (#1065959) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper Just like the miester says there is no competition I was just curious. I will be there! Hey Deanie its the Border monsters not the War pipes - you really wouldn't want to hear those played indoors (not if you value you ear drums that is) even if the accoustics are great! |
05 Dec 03 - 07:48 AM (#1065977) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Raggytash If it starts at 2 (too early for moi to get there) what time is it likely to go on till? |
05 Dec 03 - 09:49 AM (#1066044) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Usually six/seven, Nick. Depends how well the beers going down. There does come a point, old chap, when it becomes a little pointlesss to continue!! Have dusted off Jobsworth to demonstrate how it should be done... Brush up on your "I say, I say, I say.." jokes please, people? |
05 Dec 03 - 10:26 AM (#1066074) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Les from Hull I say, I say, I say What's got eight wheels and flies? Two Corporation dust carts. |
05 Dec 03 - 10:29 AM (#1066076) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Oh, for gawd's sake, you're gonna have to do better than that, Les!! |
05 Dec 03 - 08:49 PM (#1066467) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Bassic Will we be doing Quo and ZZ Deanie? Should I practice? Will it be Acustic or should I bring a battery? *grin* |
06 Dec 03 - 05:57 AM (#1066594) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags will you bring a spare one for me gordon? |
07 Dec 03 - 04:51 AM (#1067114) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper I thought you buzzed enough without the batteries osson! Anyway this here session is today and I am looking forward to it! |
07 Dec 03 - 07:58 AM (#1067164) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Raggytash Michael old bean, Wombat and I are going to cry off this afternoon, something to do with not leaving the little club until 2.30 this morning, we are both bushwhacked and a 140 mile round trip just doesn't appeal. Hopefully see you in Whitby at New Year if not before |
07 Dec 03 - 08:03 AM (#1067166) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags Your sick note is quite acceptable raggy, now I know that you were in my most favourite club in the world.Give my best to all in there. |
07 Dec 03 - 06:49 PM (#1067477) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Les from Hull Thanks to all involved for another smashing session. What a nice pub, a lovely room with good acoustics and an open fire for the (enter name of least-favourite instument here)s. And Specky's going to have Irish Whiskey next time. Sorry you missed it Nick - see you soon. |
08 Dec 03 - 03:47 AM (#1067665) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister What a lovely afternoon! Shame you didn't stick around, SP, Dickie's Uillean pipes sounded wonderful in there. I appreciate that some of you towards the back found it a little cold, but it did drop down to minus six last night, so hopefully that was just an exception. What did everybody else think? I personally found it cosier than the Sun, more like going back to the Nellies days which I always preferred....a bit more intimate. The acoustics were funny at times. And I know John had great trouble tuning his pipes, but as I said, hopefully that was just due to temperature changes. Thanks to Specky for a lovely afternoon, and to Carl for being the entertainment! Pete. |
08 Dec 03 - 05:03 AM (#1067690) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper The reeds in my pipes hated the room - yes it was due to temperature and humidity and all of that there technical stuff. I didn't think the accoustics were that good, as soon as there were a number of bodies in, the sound seemed to get sucked up. However, I love the pub and Carl was indeed very entertaining! |
08 Dec 03 - 05:06 AM (#1067692) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Yeah, its wierd that - looking at the room you would think that the sound should be brilliant, but when you fill it up it was a bit flat. Nonetheless, I thought the atmosphere was really nice. Better, in my humble opinion, than the Sun Inn. |
08 Dec 03 - 05:15 AM (#1067697) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: smallpiper Yes the atmosphere was good, I'll give you that. I particularily liked the overhead storage lockers for guitar cases |
08 Dec 03 - 11:35 AM (#1067819) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: Les from Hull I take your point(s) about the sound getting soaked up. So next time maybe we should wear wooden or metal clothes? And of course I was near the fire, so comfortably warm (and acting as a mellodeon guard). |
08 Dec 03 - 12:40 PM (#1067864) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags I liked it. |
08 Dec 03 - 03:20 PM (#1067952) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags I had no trouble with the acoustics. |
09 Dec 03 - 03:50 AM (#1068274) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: The DeanMeister Do you ever? |
09 Dec 03 - 05:57 AM (#1068317) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags No. |
10 Dec 03 - 05:50 AM (#1069143) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: ossonflags On reflection I did have trouble with acoustics once in the early seventies, when me and John Lennon were singing in a bag. |
30 Dec 03 - 10:51 AM (#1082359) Subject: RE: Sunday session at Monks Walk Beverley uk From: GUEST,The DeanMeister Was it a jiffy bag? I have today ordered 50 bags of Oakleys perfumed orthodontic polar crisps in preparation for the forthcoming session, this sunday, 4th January. Hope you all turn up, I can't eat them all myself. |
