This week will be the last one at the present location, the King's Arms. From December 11 2003 the club will be meeting at the Lincoln Arms, Goldington Green, Bedford, TEL. 01234 270323. See here for a map, but ignore the arrow: the pub is situated somwewhere around the "DIN" in "GOLDINGTON GN", overlooking the Green. There's a car park at the front. And no jukebox!

Good luck, hope the new venue works out, from all at the ST Albans folksong club now moving to the King Harry on Fridays with Dangerous curves this week.
Give Mike Blair my regards and also thank him for the support and exposure he's given our resident singer-songwriter George Papavgeris whose writing as I send this.
Look out for the Sunday 'Spotlight' club starting 18th Jan in Snorbens, I'll be trawling for talent wherever I can find it, let Mel and Trish know for me as well if you can.!

Good news. On our one visit to the Beford club we were so put off by the venue (the background noise especially) that we never bothered again. Might give it anouther try now...

Excellent turn-out last night! It really is an improvement on the old place: no noise from the bar or the jukebox, and the room is more square, a much beter shape. Apart from somebody putting out his fag in my pick-tin and destroying a plectrum, everything was very good. Thanks for the good wishes -- they obviously worked!

McF -- dunno ... who are they?

Just for anyone who didn't already know ... we have moved from the King's Arms (and the Fleur-de-Lis, and the Mill, and ...)!

And the first guests a our new venue are Delta echoes: relive the country blues of the 1920s and 30s, played on authentic acoustic and National steel guitars of the time by Richard and Stuart, skilled interpreters of Delta blues flat-picking, lap steel and slide guitar.

They'll be appearing next Thursday 22nd January. (Don't let that stop you coming tonight for our usual sing-around!)

I used to go to a folk club in Bedford called either the Prince of Wales feathers or the Fleur de lys. I can only remember the sign and they both look similar!

I also remember that one of the residents was from a famous folk group. Magna Carta possibly?

Anyone care to refresh my memory?

Cheers

Yes, it was the Fleur-de-lis (with an "i"). We moved when the landlord changed and it became a gay pub. It didn't bother most of us, and I dareaay we'd have get used to the people holding hands in g the gents (I think it was hands), but the new landlord wasn't as interested in having us there.

George "I-want-to-stamp-on-his-fingers" Norris used to be in Magna Carta. He had to move, and it turned out to be to far away for himn to come, except occasionally; which is a shame.

Breezy: try Mike at sales@bedroomacousticmusic.co.uk, which is his shop.

Julie and Rod here surfing the net in the EasyCinema foyer in a windy central Milton Keynes on Saturday night....

I'm just introducing Rod to the joys of the Mudcat cafe. I haven't made it to the new venue yet but I hear you went round three or four times last Thursday (courtesy of the weather!). Looking forward to a jukebox-free venue but I will miss the machine where I used to be able to buy 6 Minstrels (or 7 if lucky night) for 20p to eat on the journey home :))
