Does anyone have the lyrics for the above song? Also need music and background, too, if possible.

The title could be "Ring Out, Bells of Norwich".

The chorus goes something like:

Ring out, bells of Norwich, And let the winter come and go. All will be well again I know.

It's a great song for the dead of winter!!!

The song is "Julian of Norwich, and is in the book "Rise Up Singing" Julian was a mystic, an anchorite (sp?) who chose to be walled into a room in Norwich Cathedral (a practice of the times) There are writings of hers available today, which describe her visions of God. Interesting lady and wonderful song. Sydney Carter wrote it. Lyrics

BELLS OF NORWICH / JULIAN OF NORWICH

Loud are the bells of Norwich and the people come and go
Here by the tower of Julian I tell them what I know
Ring out bells of Norwich and Let the winter come and go
All shall be well again I know

Love like the yellow daffodil is coming through the snow
Love like the yellow daffodil is Lord of all I know
Ring out....

Ring for the yellow daffodil, the flower in the snow
Ring for the yellow daffodil and tell them what I know
Ring out...

(sung as chorus)
All shall be well I'm telling you Let the winter come and go
All shall be well again I know.

Carter recorded it on "Lovely is the Dance" Also Bok/Muir/Trickett did so as well, ^^^

Can anyone help with either the abc format/ dots or a midi file to The Bells of Norwich also known as Julian of Norwich. There have been several links on Mudcat in the past but none that actually has either format.

It's a little weird to correct posts from 1997 and 2006 in 2014, but here goes:

As a female hermit in the Middle Ages, Julian of Norwich would not be called an "anchorite" (the male hermits) but an "anchoress." This song is based on her prayer. Her real name is lost to history.

The Sydney Carter album which debuted "Julian of Norwich" is not "Lovely is the Dance" (as stated above) but "Lovely in the Dances". This amazing album is out of print, but can be bought as MP3s.

This song has been recorded several times, including by Ashley Hutchings' on the Albion Christmas Band, by Bok Muir Trickett, by Moonraker, the Merry Wives of Windsor, in a light rock version by Pledge Drive, and by the great Grace Griffith on her new album.

Some of the covers are called "Bells of Norwich" and "Loud Are the Bells of Norwich" which leads to some confusion.
