18 Dec 03 - 10:48 AM (#1075427) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: catspaw49 And so who the fock are you Guest? Jizzy Jagov? What's with this name changing crappola? We get to know people as who they are and not by having to know their name. Almost everyone who uses a screen name around here becomes known as that person and in most cases as time goes by we learn all kinds of personal details of their lives including their real names. But even more important, we learn of their lives and loves and hopes and dreams and joys and sadness and.........NONE of that has a damn thing to do with what name they use on the screen. So now, yet another trolling/flaming Guest Dork throws up the old thing about a screen name being the same as being anonymous.....And every swinging dick in the joint knows that the whole thing is just another way of trolling. Hey Anonymous Guest(s)......Fuck You. Knowing Giok or Rap by their real name doesn't make them any better......I learned to like them without that....as opposed to most of you who ain't got jackshit better to do than muck about here stirring the pot. Who am I? I'm Spaw. I've been Spaw for years. When other 'Catters talk to me in person or by phone, they don't call me Pat, they call me Spaw. As for hiding anything? Anonydorks, you can find the absolute most intimate and personal details of my life on these threads, my innermost thoughts and feelings. The 'Cat is a place where I live, a kind of home, where I have shared that by choice because most of these folks are friends in one way or another. But you get to know all of that too....and that's okay, I don't care. You can find not only my name and all of the boilerplate stuff, you can find links to pictures of assorted surgeries. But to intimate that anything in using a screen name is the same as being an anonymous shithead like yourself is completely ridiculous. Rapaire was and is as real to me as Mike. Whatever he wants is fine. Whatever you want can suck an owl dick. Feel free to bitch about me flaming you when you get crap about flaming. Or me trolling when you get complaints. Yeah....It's me....Spaw....Member of the Inner Clique.....all that stuff........Feel free to gripe, but first kiss my ass! Spaw |

18 Dec 03 - 11:00 AM (#1075435) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: McGrath of Harlow Has there been a GUEST in this thread that got edited out? The only anonymous GUEST in this thread doesn't match up with spaw's reaction - he or she just asked a straight question to which the answer was "Yes". In fact it read more like someone who has just posted as a GUEST accidentally because their cookie had gone walkabout. Mind, like spaw, I tend to feel pissed off with people who post as nameless GUEST on purpose - but then I suppose that's why they do it, they like pissing people off. Mind there are people it's fun to piss off, but generally it's better to do it on a more selective basis, I think. I always thought Giok was rather a good way of spelling Jock. As for Catherine Jane Pettigrew - that's a marvellous name. Makes you sit up and take notice a name like that.

18 Dec 03 - 02:07 PM (#1075557) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: C-flat I did think about changing my Mudcat name after getting to know one or two other members in 3D. The initial decision to use a "handle" was based on the fact that most others here don't post under their own names and, having no experience of using other discussion forums, I wasn't sure what I was letting myself in for. After a couple of years of visiting this site, sending and receiving PMs, etc, I have no problem with using my real name, Merrick Hamilton, (mother had a great sense of humour), but equally find that the Mudcat handles work just as well and I don't feel that I know someone less well just because they haven't told me their name. There are some regulars here who could be picked out by the content and style of their postings under any handle. C-flat. |

19 Dec 03 - 07:27 AM (#1076048) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST,Teribus Best name change story I have ever heard was where a guy got overdrawn on his bank account with the Yorkshire Bank Plc. He was overdrawn by about £10.31. The bank sent him letter drawing his attention to the matter and charged him £25 for the letter. Now £35.31 overdrawn, this guy changes his name by deed poll to "Yorkshire Bank Plc are greedy, thieving bastards". He advised the bank of his change of name and asked them to issue him with a cheque book, they replied that they no longer wished to retain him as a customer. He then sent them a money order for £36 to settle his account instructing them to send him a cheque for £0.69 made out in his new name. |

A while back, Paltalk prevented my using Doesterr because "someone else" actually me) was already using it, so I called myself Uncle DaveO there, and so, again for consistency and for cross-platform recognition's sake, I adopted that handle here. 19 Dec 03 - 06:35 PM (#1076467) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Little Hawk Right on, Spaw. I like people's "handles" on this forum, one gets fond of them. Everyone around my place (meaning me, the 2 dachshunds, the hamster, and the chimp) has been weeping unconsolably since Rapaire changed his membername! It's shocking and deeply disturbing. I am, in fact, worried that this Mike Doellman character is someone who's done away with Rapaire and stolen his identity! Why would anyone do that, you ask? Well, it's simple. Mike Doellman wanted to co-opt all of Rapaire's brilliant writings on this forum and pretend that HE was the genius-level mind behind them, then copyright it all and make a fortune! It's a filthy plot, and I won't stand for it. Even though Rapaire is probably gone...dare I say it...forever, we the membership of Mudcat must see that his name does not vanish into obscurity. The WSSBA is going to hold a fundraising event on Sunday, selling lime green bumper stickers that say "Rapaire Lives!" for $15 each, and I hope all Mudcatters will attend and buy at least 5 of them. 19 Dec 03 - 07:27 PM (#1076512) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Joe Offer Well, Mike, I guess that technically you did it right, and I appreciate that. However, I've known you as "Rapaire," and it's going to take me a while ot get used to this new Mike character. I feel better with Giok's method of using both old and new names. I'm glad Giok added something to his name, because I was very embarrassed when I called him "Mary" by mistake, thinking he was another Mudcatter who has a similar user name. Now, there's nothing wrong with using user names that are totally disconnected from your real name. It's just that it makes it confusing for Mudcatters to deal with you if you encounter them in real life. And if you're a performer, I would think it would generally be to your advantage to post with your stage name. But could you really imagine Catspaw and Micca posting as Pat and Michael Patterson? How has my travel and education defined and re-defined and re-re-defined me? Is it all real, or simply "sound and fury, signifying nothing"? I read and enjoyed Garcia Marquez's book "One Hundred Years Of Solitude" years ago; would I enjoy it if I re-read it, or have the intervening years changed the "me" that enjoyed it into someone who wouldn't enjoy it now? 20 Dec 03 - 09:18 PM (#1077107) Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Little Hawk There was a hunchbacked servant in some old comic in National Lampoon named "Smegma"! I always got a good laugh out of that. Oh, yeah, the comic was: "Dr Colon's Monster" Smegma was usually attempting to secure a brain or some other less valuable body part to animate the monster. Very amusing. Amos, your comment at 2:38 today was absolutely on the mark and brilliant! Yes, we are all here (in this life, I mean) under an assumed identity, with a temporary, assumed name. And isn't it great fun? I mean, unless you don't want to have fun. Then it isn't. Everyone gets exactly what they want...even if NOT getting what they want is what they want! He wouldn't let anyone call him "Donald" for some reason... :-) Speaking of which, there was a real live folksinger named "Duck" Donald. He used to play with Cathy Fink. No joke. There's also the famous Toronto musician/painter Joe Mendehlson, who changed his name to Toronto Joe Mendhelson, then Sophisto Joe Mendehlson, and finally Mendehlson Joe! And no, I don't know where the damned "h" goes in "Mendehlson". I'm not even sure if there is an "h". His art stinks, but it's better than Bob Dylan's...at least I think it is. Here's one of my favourites: - The Moon Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou seemest most charming to my sight; As I gaze upon thee in the sky so high, A tear of joy does moisten mine eye. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the Esquimau in the night; For thou lettest him see to harpoon the fish, And with them he makes a dainty dish. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the fox in the night, And lettest him see to steal the grey goose away Out of the farm-yard from a stack of hay. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the farmer in the night, and makes his heart beat high with delight As he views his crops by the light in the night. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the eagle in the night, And lettest him see to devour his prey And carry it to his nest away. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the mariner in the night As he paces the deck alone, Thinking of his dear friends at home. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the weary traveller in the night; For thou lightest up the wayside around To him when he is homeward bound. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the lovers in the night As they walk through the shady groves alone, Making love to each other before they go home. Beautiful Moon, with thy silvery light, Thou cheerest the poacher in the night; For thou lettest him see to set his snares To catch the rabbit and the hares. William Topaz McGonagall Profound stuff eh! Andy Mitchell |
