moi moi!
It's me again, that insistent cow. I asked about Kaustinen(cow-stinen) festival on the 'mostly finnish' thread but I realised I should've just started a Kaustin thread, since a specific question can get easily buried on a general thread. So what I wanted to know is.....ANYTHING about the Kaustinen fest, and the other one, Kihaus. From anyone who's been or anybody who knows anything! (preferably about these festivals, although smart remarks and useless trivia will be smiled at). mooCP

I visited Kaustinen festival last year and had an AMAZING time! The atmosphere is great, especially the informal concerts in the Musicians House in the Festival Arena, and the evening concerts in the main arena are magical! We saw Varttina, Vasen & JPP all in one evening...dancing to JPP in the warm midnight sun was unforgetable! A visit to the Folk Music Institute is a must...the major concerts in here are priced separately to the main festival site events.
I'd recommend you book into some accommodation in the village in advance - the campsite is a bit primitive, and very prone to midges after storms! Lots of the local residents leave the village during the festival and rent out their properties to festival-goers. The earlier you book, the nearer to the festival site you'd be and it's reasonably priced - youth hostel rates of around £15 per person/night.
Visit www.kaustinen.net for more information about this year's festival.

Thank you guest!!!
Oh, to see those bands!!, I'm only hoping they play this year!
The festival was a little bit of an enigma to me. I knew a bit but had no Idea about the atmosphere. someone described it to me once but it was nowhere near as vivid and magic as you make it sound.
I love going to fests here, I'm looking forward to a complete change(and I have this feeling that I'll want to go next year too)...moocowpoo
