27 Jan 04 - 08:03 PM (#1102989) Subject: Looking for Louis Killen From: Mark Ross Some time ago I learned a song from Utah Phillips that he wrote called THE TROOPERS LAMENT. He told me that the tune was an old focsle chanty that he learned from Louis Killen, but Utah couldn't remember the title of the shanty. I'd like to get a hold of Louis to ask him.Lately I'd heard he was living in Minnesota, but his website says that he's moved back to the British Isles. Any 'Catter out there have an e-mail address, or a URL? If he's still in the states I'd call if a phone number was available. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark Ross |

28 Jan 04 - 04:24 PM (#1103747) Subject: RE: Looking for Louis Killen From: Joe Offer I posted "Trooper's Lament" in the Utah Phillips Songs thread. I can't identify the tune, and I'm having trouble with some of the Korean place names in the song. -Joe Offer- |
28 Jan 04 - 05:35 PM (#1103795) Subject: RE: Looking for Louis Killen From: Jeri Cho-son is normally writtne Chosun. Korea is known as 'The Land of the Morning Calm'. I used to incorporate the small, ubiquitous objects I danced around on my way to work into the title. I'll try to either remember or find information on the other names, unless someone beats me to it. |
28 Jan 04 - 05:38 PM (#1103796) Subject: RE: Looking for Louis Killen From: Mark Ross Joe, I'm not sure of the place names myself. However your transcription looks fairly accurate, except its the GAP, not gaffe. Thanks, I hope somebody else can help me with the name of that tune. Mark Ross |
