BS: 'rant here' thread #2

09 Feb 04 - 10:35 AM (#1112540)
Subject: BS: 'rant here' thread #2
From: Bill D

the old thread disappeared, and it was over 100 anyway, so here's a fresh one.

AHEM!...I will now start this off with a petty, pedantic little poke at people who ration the letter 'e' when they're noting amused laughter in print.

Thus: "hehehe" TSK! Are you giggling/chuckling or pointing out a line of men? If you are demonstrating laughter, it should be "heeheehee"!!

If you want the form usually denoting feminine giggling, would you type "tehe"?? WOULD YOU? Or would you type "teehee? HMMMM??? (or even "tee-hee" and "hee, hee, hee").

Perhaps, if u r 1 of those p-pul who abbrvts most wrds when u type, I can shrug...but here on Mudcat, we say it ALL! Don't we?

Thank you for your rapt attention!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled haranguing.

The old thread? I'm not surprised, because every
single thread I post on, immediately ceases ever to
have existed.

but Bill - "heeheehee" and "hehehehehe" and "Heh-heh-heh" are three distinctly different forms of laughter...

'Scuse me, but I'm very precise in my chat laughter. :) I "tee hee" when I titter, and I "heheh" when I chuckle, and I "hee hee" when I'm gleeful, and I "hahahahahahahahaha" when I belly-laugh. [Big grin] :D My favorite is the evil laugh: "bwahahahahaha" or "muhahahaha" or "mwahahahahaha"

indeed..heh,heh IS distinct from hee,hee and ha,ha! But hehe and heehee I see NO difference in, other than spelling. Teresa, if you use a reading program, what does IT say? (Told you I was pedantic!)

What pops MY cork is probably where the excess from your rationed E's is going. It's something I often see in chat rooms, exemplified by "awesomeeeeeeeeee". I suppose such a writer means to extend the "mm" sound, not to make an extended vowel at the end that isn't present in the pronunciation of the base word.   But if they've saved up all those E's, they have to squander them somewhere!

hehehe- or heheheheh I use for a throaty sort of chuckle - whereas I save heh-heh-heh-heh for the very deliberate "dirty old man" laugh.

Heeheehee is definately a titter - totally different vowel then hehehe

Bill D, the Hehe" sounds like "he" and the "heehee" sound like "heehee". :)

At one time a bunch of us with the same speech synthesizer got together and wrote out various sounds to see what noises we could get. Ah yes, 'twas a time when we had nothing better to do. :)

My rants!

The word entitled is mis-used by even highly educated people. Here's the correct way; You are ENTITLED to two weeks vacation. Here is the incorrect and most often used way; The song was ENTITLED ( should be TITLED) Amazing Grace.

Rant number two. 'Catters who don't read the thread before writing their response. Some 'catters ask questions in their responses and would like some information. Some answers have been given a dozen times! A cursory read is all that is necessary.

There, I can breathe easier now!

Oh yes, I have another. People who complain about the political state of things but won't put their feet (or fingers) where their mouth is! Get out and work for your candidate!

I am going to throttle the next inept office person who comes to me with some ridiculous computer problem that even a retarded monkey could figure out. I don't have all day to show people who should know better how to switch from Portrait to Landscape, or remind them that all their office documents are accessible on the main server, so I don't need to e-mail them a copy of anything! It's all right there!

Thanks for your time.

Well gol danged..... I finally start a danged thread that don't peter out after a couple of posts an' here it just goes *poof*. Like what's tah all about, anyway?

Makes me mad enuff to spend a couple o' years on some psychiatrist couch spillin' my guts about poly-morphorse perverse guilt and unreslove toilet training issues. Now that's mad...

And while I'm on it, I don't get no respect 'round this joint. I go a write some purdy danged profound crap about this 'er that and like no one says nuthin' 'bout it. Not even a danged yawn... It's gotten so bad that even DougR ignores me??? Now that's bad...

And what's with cops allowing folks who own and rive SUV's to drive as fast as they want but I get busted fir doing 33 in a 25? Yeah, no that really sucks and I gotta go to court tomorrow morning and hope that I don't get throwed in jail fir askin' the same danged question and being held for contempt of court. Heck, I ain't nuthin' against the courts. It the friggin' cops who think that is perfectly friggin' okay if rich folks who drive shiney SUV's drive 33 or 43 on a 25 but let ol' Bobert in his 15 year old Toyota do it then it raises the country to a Code Orange...

Speakin' of SUV's. Do you realize that if yer in business fir yerself then Uncle Sam will pay up to 33% of the cost of a new SUV perchase? Now what kind of energy policy is that. Take my hard earned tax dollars and give 'um to some danged rich guy who just bought a Hummer that is gonna polute my air, burn up an inordinant anount of non-reusable fuel and probably kill me should one of them things run into me. The danged things weigh close to 3 tons...

There, if we're gonna have a new thread I figgured I should get in earlyy before the real ranters get here...

Shoot, Mid, that's danged near every 4WD Suv or truck made. They upped the GVW on 'um so you canget the tax breaks... My brother bought one. A 2004 Ford truck with a friggin' stinky diesel motor in it. You can smell it for miles around... And I'm at my dining room table pouring over receipts and doing this Scedule X or another and trying to figgure out where Iz gonna come up with another $1600 to give to the government so it can give it to my brother to stink up the neighborhood???

And thankee, Teresa, fir them kind words. When I first started coming 'round this joint there were lots o' folks saying nice stuff about what I had to say but then these folks all got together and took a vote and when the balloting was tabulated, dimpled chads and all, ol' Bobert was sent to spend 500 years in Mudcat pergatory. Well, I don't care. Shoot, about 498 years from now these folks is gonna be purdy danged sorry!!!!

Shoot, don't take a weatherman to tell ya which way the wind blows...

Now fir my last rant, what is it about airplanes. They is filled with germs. I went down to Memphis last week fir the IBC (International Blues Challenge) and like two days after gettin' back I got a sore throat and a cough and worser yet, I'm 'sposed to play tomorrow night night and open fir my main man, Sparky Rucker... Now that really sucks... Heck, if they can keep the Terrorists off the planes, why the heck can't they keep bad germs off 'um??? Answer me that one..

As fir Polly Morphorse.... Don't even ask.... Lets just say that she don't want totalk to no body about nuthin'.... Unless, of course, its on some danged psychatrist couch... Then it's watch the heck out 'cause once you get that ol' gal talkin' she'll tell evrything she knows....

Achhh, who cares, dang it? Tweed toad me that you folks is a bunch of city folks when I can over here and so like, hey, that's the way it is. Ain't sposed to rile no city folks up, no sir...

We use NA for those (not applicable or not available) or UNK. Satisfies the anals. The practice that I love is putting a paragraph in the eact middle of a blank page that says "This page intentionally left blank" in military documents. Of course it isn't true, since it has that paragraph in it, and furthermore it reveal a terribly authoritarian mindset, I would think.

The purpose for the "intentionally left blank" is to allow room for later addition which will not upset the pagination, as I understand it.

I told them that I thought under the circumstances she was being pretty damned polite, that she ought to be yelling and screaming, and that she was damn well entitled to express herself however the hell she wanted. The subject didn't come up again, but it still pisses me off to think about it. Here's my rant - prescribing mood-altering drugs to small children is just plain irresponsible.

Young aggressive males??

In the last few years, I have been more concerned with young aggressive FEmale drivers. Anytime someone races ahead of me to pull in front and then block the lane to make a turn 100 yards down the road, or passes me on the right by using the shoulder (not a lane) or pulls out in front of me, etc. 9 out of 10 times it is a young girl. She will also probably have a car full of her friends who she is turning around and yakking to. And all of the accidents I've seen in the past, oh, 5 years have involved young girls.

So why do they still pay less in insurance premiums than young (and not-so-young) men (even with clean driving records)?

Little Hawk....it is a little known fact that most young males at about age 15-16 are spirited away by slightly older comrades to a secret clinic in an old automotive shop...(every state and province has one)...where they undergo a simple but effective surgical rite where the gonads are wired so that they may be plugged directly to the carberator/fuel pump of any vehicle they may be likely to operate.

A VERY few of us, (I assume you are one), didn't hang out with the 'right' crowd and were missed, and thus tend to drive reasonably sanely.

1. First of all, Iz figured out why Cheney's fitsy name is Dick! Fir grins he and his buddies go out and murder domestically raised birds. Oh, how friggin' brave... Heck, if the chickenhawk likes killin' so much, why don't he do a little street duty in Bahgdad?

2. Speaking of Dick Cheney, how about this "energy policy" that he and his oilmen buddies wrote in private? Seems that it has only 2 components: incresed consumption and higher profits fir the folks who wrote it. Hmmmm?

3. And how about Brown v. Board of Education (Topeka, Kansus)? Here 50 years later no one has figgured out the "all deliberate speed" part of the ruling as most schools are still either predominantly black or white.

4. Which brings me to white folks. I don't like 'um to speak of. Okay, I might be one but don't mean I gotta like 'um. Specially the males. Okay, I likes a lot of the white guys here but that's because they don't represent white guys in general. The "in general" ones? Creeps, rednecks and crooks!

5. And what's with John Kerry? Ya' read and hear that the '04 Election is his to loose. Well, he doing his part. If he don't hurry up and throw some bones to the progressives, he'll do just that.

6. And howcome the buzz work these days is training rather than education? Oh yeah, trained folks will just obey orders and not ask why?

7. And just how many folks from Gen X will actually ever be able to retire? Like none, that's how many. Seems like even a large share of the Baby Boomers will die pushing shoppin' carts in the parking lots of the local Super Walmart.

8. Speaking of which, screw Walmart and the children who work fir a buck a day to fill their shelves with crap... No, on second thought, leave the kidsa lone. They are allready getting screwed...

9. And since when did a friggin' mouse get the power to control what movies we can see?

and, drum roll...

10. Like why won't that little weizel resident in thief crooked lair take me up on a challenge to land planes on an aircraft carrier? Nevermind. I forgot. He didn't. He was in the back seat workin' on his Mission Accomplished" smirk.

Well, that gets me caught up and I didn't even have to start a new thread....

yeh, thanks Bobert - you have given me permission to rant too. Ranting is GOOD because otherwise its possibile to slip into a state of dangerous passivity, apathy, acceptance, overwhelm or even underwhelm. and if that happens we may as well crawl into a little hole and bury ourselves.

I HATE IT THAT THE WORLD IS SO LOUSY SOMETIMES, AND THE PEOPLE IN A POSITION TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT ARE DICKHEADS WHO DONT SEEM TO GIVE A SHIT.

there. that feels better.

AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE.

aaah.

tomorrow I'm going out letterboxing for a Green candidate in Sydney who's standing against our prime minister, contesting the local seat. He was a spook with Top Secret clearance who stood down from his position as a government advisor on Iraq, prior to the war, and revealed that there was no information to suggest that there were weapons of mass destruction.

and then after that I'm going to listen to some good music.

Now I have something I want to rant about. What is it about women and food? We have a cake in our office left over from a celebration last week. One of my coworkers comes in and says, Oh! I want some cake. I don't need it, though.

And I said, well, if you don't need it, then don't eat it.

And she said, oh, but if I tell myself that, I won't get as big a piece.

And I said, if you really want some, just have a little bit. If you really think you don't need it, don't have any. (And SHUT UP! I thought to myself.)

This happens all the time. People will bring in treats of various shapes and sizes, and some of the women will fuss and fuss about "who brought those in? they shouldn't have done that! winkwinknudgenudge" and "Oh, I don't need those extra calories," and on and on and on, ad nauseam.

We got a little jelly-bean dispenser free with an office supply order. I said, hey, let's get sugar-free jelly beans, since everyone here's always complaining about sweets. So we got sugar-free jelly beans. And what did the complainers do? Turned up their noses.

What the hell is up with that?

If you want to eat cake, great. If you don't want to eat cake, great. I don't need to hear about it. And for Heaven's sake, don't eat the cake and then come back with "I shouldn't have eaten that cake."

Why is it women who always do this? I don't believe I've EVER seen a man do it. And women want to talk about their food... "oh I can't eat that, it's too fattening," or "I can't eat that, it has too many carbs..." Why do I need to know about it? I don't. Eat what you want, leave the rest, and HUSH already!

Okay, I think I'm done now.

Friggin' right you are, Kim C. If people don't want sh#t on their hands they should keep them out of the toilet bowl. Don't hold back. I don't understand that myself. I hear it at work, too. "Oh. Is it fattening?" (OK, let's see: the first six ingredients are sugar, so maybe . . . .) "Beats me! Try 93 of them and let me know."

And goddamned fast food places that won't give ya salt. Just try getting salt if you aren't carrying a .357. "Oh, but salt's not good for you." (Listen, dipshit, if I wanted to eat what's good for me I wouldn't BE here!)

Thank you, Kim. I feel much better now.

OK, check this one out. Because I wasn't getting child support I couldn't pay bills. Because I couldn't pay bills I got "public assistance" (euphemism for welfare). Because I got welfare, the child support enforcement people got off their duffs and actually started enforcing - and got $300 out of my X. BUT - because I am on public assistance, THE GOV'T KEPT THE MONEY - to pay back the welfare I'd already gotten. Why don't they enforce when my KIDS would get the money? When I was told Oh, yes, apply for this aid, that will force the child support enforcement people actually to enforce... nobody told me that what they enforced would benefit THE GOV, not MY KIDS. And what REALLY MADE ME MAD is that I, of all people, should have known better when told We are from the government and we are here to help you. Should have known they'd be helping themselves... AAARGGGHHH!!!

Well, compared to that, this is really silly, but it might lighten things up a bit.........

What's up with licorice jelly beans? They're like the anchovy of the candy world. Nobody wants them! Somebody must, though, or they wouldn't keep making them.

Personally, I like anchovies now and then. I notice pizza places almost always have them as an option, but I have never, in all my 36 years, seen anyone actually ORDER anchovies on a pizza.

Bruce, that sounds REALLY good!

Okay, I have another one. There are people in my office who don't know how to use the computers & printers assigned to them. They haven't a clue. A coworker told me yesterday her printer wouldn't do envelopes. I said, look for the little envelope icon on your printer (I showed her the one on mine so she'd know what to look for.) She never came back so I guessed she'd figured it out.

This morning she went to the receptionist and told her the same thing. I said, don't you have the manual that came with your printer? No, she said. So I went to go look at it, and there on the side, plain as day, was the envelope icon. She said she'd seen it but she didn't think it looked like an envelope.

Love those people who ask what you're doing while you're doing whatever. Paint a house, and for sure some idiot will come over and say, "So, ya paintin' the house?" I had a guy say that to me once.

"Hey, Bruce, ya paintin' the house?" I replied, "Naw, not until I get it sanded first." I shit you not, he said, "But that's paint you're putting on." I couldn't believe it. I didn't do enough of ANYTHING in the 1960s to figure THAT out. So, I said, "Aw, fu#k, thanks, now I gotta start over. FU#K!"

He left.

Rosa Marina is a gift from the gods. It is very expensive, but it is gooooooddd. I only ever get to have any once every few years. It is hard to find. But wow.

Another good pizza is with a fresh tomato, fresh oregano and fresh basil sauce--cooked for maybe eight minutes (the sauce, that is). Cook the dough about half way. Then brush it with walnut oil. Cook for 5 minutes more. Then add the sauce. Cook until done. When it's done, grate a strong cheese over it and let it sit for five. If you like meat on pizza, try it with capicolo forte (it's spicy hot, but not that hot) added when you add the cheese. Then serve. I don't drink, but if I did I'd have it with chianti--room temperature. Since I don't, I like it with cold Brio (an Italian soft drink) that also goes by the name Chinotto. It's an acquired taste, but really good.

This is making me hungry.

Later.

These pissant morons have got to be stopped. I am going to phone Toy Presidents ASAP and tell them that these guys are stacking the deck unfairly, and they have got to restructure the voting subroutines and stop this shit in its tracks!

Millard Fucking Fillmore was a nobody. He sucks. He never did anything worth putting him in the forefront of American presidents.

I agree with the tone and tenor of your post; however, I must take issue with your opening statement. It would have much more power if you worded it thus: "Some major collection of assholes . . . ."

I agree that Fillmore is receiving votes from some people who are not packaged as tightly as one might like, but the folks who are voting do provide a fair representation of a certain segment of society, as did Fillmore.

Might I presume to say that you have yet to cast your ballot for Fillie? Don't let me hold you back. Up Fillmore! Once more into the breach.
