Well, once again, since i DONT play by ear, and don't retain it if i do........does anyone have the tadpoles for this tune? Or a direction to head me in? Sure is pretty.......hope the words are nice, i don't speak spanish, and just liked the sound. Thanks, all

My small smattering of Spanish seems to indicate a pleasant set of lyrics about a "fool" who builds castles in the air. There is a MIDI listed here under the TRADICIONALES heading. If I can figure out chords and such, I'll post them. I can't help at all with the dots.

Okay. Got it. This is essentially a two-chord song. If you were playing in C, you'd switch between C and G7 at the ends of every other phrase. By the way, I just now realized that the (D.P.) next to the MIDI titles translate to mean Public Domain.

"Castillos en el Aire" may not be the right song.
There is a Mexican song called "Las Gaviotas," possibly by Gonzalo Hermosa (an arranger?), sung on an album by the Bolivian singer, Zulma Yugar, and sheet music arranged by Ernesto Belloc, available in a collection at Tulane, but nothing else shows up on Google with "Las Gaviotas, cancion."
It seems to be a trad. song.

Q, you are quite right. My bad. The MIDI is probably the correct, traditional one; but a fairly deep search for lyrics hasn't revealed anything yet that appears to be traditional.

No luck so far, either.

Pardon the quick note without links; I'm supposed to be working.

There's apparently a transcription in a songbook by Chris Bruckner: "Mexico -- Canciones Populares." I found this info on a German site, www.chords-online.de. I know nothing about it or the book and don't read German, so...

Flaco Jimenez recorded "Las Gaviotas" on a CD that claims to enclose a lyrics book. It should be available from Arhoolie and elsewhere. Lots of soundbytes on the Web, but alas no lyrics page.

Thanks, ClaireBear. Always wanted a cd by Flaco Jimenez; I have ordered the one that contains that song (Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio y Mas!). Hope the booklet is decent; I probably would make a mess of taking the lyrics from the track.

Better late than never.......here's some lyrics!

Oh yeah, and here is a translation, kindly given me by Allan! Thank you kindsirshesaid! ain't it purty?

Here is a fairly good, albeit not quite literal translation of the lyrics:

What walk are the seagulls doing?

What movement do they make at the edge of the sea.

They are seeking the nests of their loves

The nests of the loves they have found

How beautiful to have such loves

In this world that God has made

Give me a little kiss, give me a hug

So that I might be like them

If you wish, dear, come with me

And in my boat I'll carry you

When we arrive at the other shore

New songs I'll sing to you

How beautifully your dark skin shines

Like the waves that burst

Thousands of seashells in the sand

Thousands of pearls in the sea

What do you say, black girl? Why don't you love me

If you are my life, my well being?

Give me a little kiss, give me a hug

Come with me, we go to the sea

Thanks, Gipsy and Allan. The free translation hews close to the meaning of the song.
