Charles Chilton, legendary radio producer of Riders of the Range, Journey into Space* and , of course, (musical bit!)the McColl Radio Ballads is doing the BBC Radio 4 "Archive Hour" next Saturday 21st at 8pm GMT, covering his own career in conversation with Russell Davies.

Is this the same guy who had a bit of a wrangle with Joan Littlewood about accreditation for "Oh What a Lovely War!"?

Yes, one of his radio productions sparked off the stage version.

Here’s his musical docudrama Oh - What A Lovey War! as recorded from the NZBC in the 70s …

Am trying to obtain a Charles Chilton recording of the Salvation Army. There’s a very poor off air recording on You Tube. I purchased an original script on eBay, currently being scanned for a pdf. But I’d like a better recording. It would have come from a BBC transcription disc originally.
