How could we have let this pass by unmentioned?

For you non-Brits ... it's a Brit thing, you wouldn't understand!

Indeed a great milestone which should not go unrecorded!

We took assorted grandchildren to The Bash Street Kids Touring Exhibition at The DLI* museum some years back. None of the schoolkids outfits would fit me but the Leo Baxendale video was great.

I always thought the teacher looked liked Potter from Please Sir!

And I wanted real Numbskulls in my head, I wanted them to prop my eyes up with matchsticks from the inside.

And the hedonistic pleasure of a Beano Annual on Christmas morning.

Minnie the Minx, Pansy Potter, Keyhole Kate..they are all merging into one now, and Billy the Whizz, and and and and.............

Could never get along with the story about a colonel/seargeant/major/some sort of soldier....the page always looked awash with khaki and I think it took up the centre pages, maybe it was The Beezer though, the broadsheet of the day.

There was Corporal Clot in the Beano (or was it the Dandy?), and Colonel Blink -- The short-sighted gink in the Beezer. (And who can remember the words to the Ballad of Baby Crocket?)

Some of the jingles only worked in Scotland (D C Thompsonm is a Scottish publisher), like Pansy Potter -- The strongman's dotter.

Kids today - they don't know what they're missing! We had so much in the fifties that kids don't have today -- polio, diphtheria, rickets ...

....scarlet fever, mumps, skiffles. I'm still suffering from those childhood skiffles, scars you for life you know...I soon gave up the Dandy and Beano for Wizard and Hotspur and then the Eagle of course.

Most (all?) of you won't bre aware, but Plug grew up to become a Physics Master at Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall.

Hell think of it 50 years old and still at school. No wonder they say the education system is failing.
