MMario's cd's HERE!

23 Feb 04 - 08:42 AM (#1121707)
Subject: Approved last track...
From: GUEST,MMario

Okay - I just gave a thumbs up to the last track on my first CD - so I finally feel I can mention it here on the 'cat.

Thanks to my friends at Small Stuff Studios I've actually had the chance since Christmas to go into the studio and lay down enough material for a CD. Finally when people ask me if I have one I can say "YES!

At least I will be able to shortly - the master still needs to be burned and the actual production done - but compared to getting the tracks down that's simplicity!!!

Besides Steve Dornan at Small Stuff (who put up with my microphone phobia, general attacks of nerves and panic, and actually managed t make me sound GOOD) I have to thank the Mudcat - for encouragement, examples, and from several members - songs!

I am beyond pleased that among the cuts on the CD will be lyrics from Jeri, Don Meixner, and Alan Foster. And though I learned one song long before I ever found the mudcat - 'twas through the cat I got the CORRECT lyrics for 'Brian the King' by Brian Leo.

I'm going to go crawl into a hole and shake for about a week now - I have to admit - while waiting for Stevee to post the mixed version of the last track yesterday my stomach was in knots, my mind was incapable of focusing on *anything* and based on the nervous energy I spent pacing I should have dropped about 5 pounds (Hey! That's a good thing!)

LOL. You're the only person on the planet who's worried about this. Everyone else knows you can do this, or would assume it as soon as they met you. Hm..... if there is anyone you know who you think would disagree, please send me enough copies of the finished product to use as medicinal suppositories to treat their illness! :~)

Are you kiddin', Leo? I can't wait to hear this one, and will order it straightaway as soon as you get off yer arse and let us know how.

Congrats, my friend. Be prepared to be wholly dissatisfied with the final product. Happens every time. hahahahaha You get a bad case of the "I shoulda's".

Well ...... I was thinking about talking to Fielding, Patterson and Swan about bringing you in as a junior associate in the firm of Lane, Fielding, Patterson and Swan, Layabouts at Large and for hire. But you have obviously been a bit too busy. Maybe next time.

All the best,

Mick

Sounds like a good CD, MMario. Take a look at the Digital Tradition for Cape St. Mary's. If that's the song you're singing, it isn't traditional. It's by Otto P. Kelland. Wild Mountain Thyme is another one that's questionable. It certainly has traditional roots, but the best-known version was written by Jimmy McPeake.
Good luck with your recording.

I'd dedicating the CD to five women -

You know how they say behind every successful man there is a woman? well in my case it took more then one - (a great many more!) and I'm still not sure about the "successful" part...

The most important thing about these five ladies is that they were all mentors and friends; they all had far more faith in my abilities then I do myself, and they all enjoyed my singing. they all also knew when to encourage, and when to kick my butt! None of them was satisfied with less then my best even when I was.

A friend pointed out to me they are all also deceased - and wondered whether that was significant in their having encouraged me!

They of course are not the only factors that have brought me to the point where I even considered making this instead of just dreaming about "what if" - but they were instrumental in making me confident enough to even dream.

BTW folks - Jeri donated her royalties to the Mudcat. Granted - the anticipated sales don't make that a whoppin' amount - but *I* think she deserves a round of applause.

On the other hand - don't swell her head too much as I want to record 'Wheel of Time' at some point and don't want to be priced out of the running. *grin*

When I turn on the CD player, Gaia says she wants Leo in there. Then when I put in your CD, she dances a while then she yells "Hi Leo" at the speakers, and asks if Leo is in there.

Mario,

I received your CD in the mail today. Thank you. I immediately tore open the case and tossed it in the player. I like your take on The Mother's Kiss very much. Your un-accompanied style does this song justice. I haven't been able to listen to the rest of it yet tho'. I am sitting here dripping wet between the shower and the bedroom as I change and get ready to do our fourth performance of this week end. But I had to express my thanks to you for adding my humble effort to your CD.

refreshing just in case there is anyone who'll be going to Pirate Weekend at MD this weekend. Sorry for the blatant advertising - but I had to buy new tires this week.

Had a recording session for the next CD wednesday night - 13 songs are in post-production - 5 still need additional tracks cut - either instrumental or additional voices.

Christmas Carols - so strange to be doing them this time of year - we recorded one number in August because that was the only time we could get the group I needed together.

And apparently MMario can sell CD's on reputation alone, even beyond Mudcat-- he left a few at our church. Hardi put it in the newsletter that they could be had through the church office-- sold a set of three already! :~)

I just ordered another box of these to keep passing around to people I think should hear it, and have the Christmas one to add too.
If you have not heard Mmario sing, you should. Wonderfully warm expressive voice, great song selection, simple unaccompanied and unaffected style. And the best version of "Mist-Covered Mountains" ever.

OMG, that's great news... why did I not see this before? Or did I, and just don't remember because of brain fog?

Anyway, TRACERED. Sleep now. Thread tomorrow.
