We were lucky enough to have Bayou Seco in Reserve, NM this weekend. They teamed up with our local dance band and boy, they sure made our guys sound like something!

They'll be at the Lady of the Mountain Folk Festival in Magdalena, NM March 12-13 - if anyone from Mudcat is thinking about going, send me a PM, maybe we could meet.

If you can't make it to Magdalena because you live on the other side of the Atlantic, don't worry - I think Bayou Seco is headed to Europe in mid-April. You can find their itinerary at
www.cantos.org.

Great music, and they're really nice people, too.

Sue, I would 2nd your recommendation, Heard them at "Sharps" Folk Club here in London UK about a year ago and they are Class, Real Class and do some (to my Celtic ears) strange but wonderful music!!! so if they are on near you go listen, its an experience.

I've been to Magdalena. It's in such a beautiful area. And it's an honest little town. Go to the rock shop while you're there and see the smithsonite.

Two UK tours this year in fact. The URL for their site is www.cantos.org/bayouseco/ or try their agent at www.accessallareas.info/

I saw them on the last before tour .. with a musician friend standing in on banjo or something .. ..

Horses for courses .. but several people left because they were sooooo embarassingly boring, tedious, lack-lustre and quite frankly, unfunnily, not very good.

But, hey, perhaps they were imposters and not Bayou Seco after all?

What a shame, Nemesis. That doesn't sound like Bayou Seco at all. I wonder if they were having a bad night - after 20 odd years of playing and touring you must have one every once in a while, where things go badly for one reason or another.

And, as you suggested, different strokes for different folks - quite a few people just like what they're used to.

I like what they do - to my ears it sounds authentic and unpretentious, which are a plus when it comes to traditional music, don't you think?

Great interview with Ken and Jeanie here, on the Musical Traditions site.
