26 Sep 98 - 10:42 PM (#39555) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: Big Mick I don't know about the Putnam County String Band but you can find the lyrics you are looking for in the database. Go to the top of this thread, look in the upper right hand corner for the "Search the Digitrad database", type in the word [Paradise] and up they will pop. The song was written by John Prine, who may or may not be a folk singer. :-) Beat ya, Joe. :-) All the best, Mick |

26 Sep 98 - 11:36 PM (#39567) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: harpgirl Lillian, You might try Rounder Records. The Putnam String County Band recorded "Home Grown" on Rounder in 1973. But it doesn't have that song. The band was Jay Unger and the former Lyndon Hardy Unger, Abby Newton and John Cohen in those days...cheers! harpgirl |

27 Sep 98 - 12:23 AM (#39577) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: mcmud Try Annie's Front Hall as a source for recordings. They have a website, I'm not sure of the URL, but it should be some permutation of that name. They used to have all the Ungar and co. recordings. -Jill |
27 Sep 98 - 12:33 AM (#39579) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: BSeed Joe, it's great to see you haven't lost your sense of humor after the Dylan and Intellectual Property threads, and that you can squeeze so many references to so many different threads into so few words. The mark of a true poet. --seed |
27 Sep 98 - 12:48 AM (#39584) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: Big Mick Joe, You made me laugh out loud. Felt good. Lillian, Be sure to do a search through the vendors that support Mudcat first. If you can find the recording there, and order it there through the secure link, it helps to support the Mudcat. All the best, Mick |
27 Sep 98 - 02:47 PM (#39644) Subject: RE: putnam county string band From: Susan of DT McMud, that's Andy's Front Hall. If I look around, I can probably find their catalog, with address and e-mail. The Rounder record I have of Putnum County also does not have Muhlenberg County on it. I remember Jean Ritchie singing it, but it is not on the records I have of hers, so I can't tell you which to look for. The song is also called Paradise or Paradise Valley. |
