18 Mar 04 - 04:14 AM (#1139777) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Ross Many thanks for your wise words Martin - if only you were prime minister I have now burnt the television and have taken to living in a tree at the bottom of the garden There were nine of us playing the blues - it was a bit chaotic but okay for a first session |

16 Apr 04 - 03:46 AM (#1162926) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Ross Hi Martin - the Blues is a bit blue at the moment - it's early days I'm not going Sunday so I'll see you Monday Have the Folkoholics made another date to get together? |
16 Apr 04 - 08:17 AM (#1163066) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: GUEST,Julie B Thanks Ross. Yes, I really enjoyed the hour with you, Alan and discussing matters musical! It's nice to know you like the CD. I know you've heard some of the songs before but probably not all of them. Incidentally I have absolutely no problem with anyone else singing any of my songs that they take a fancy to (although I know most are written for a woman to sing). A few people I know are already singing the PEL song ("If you want to sing a song") and Potcheen and Potatoes. It's just lovely to think the songs can hopefully stand on their own merit even if I'm not there singing them! :) Fingers crossed for Blues night number 4. Julie B |
16 Apr 04 - 08:26 AM (#1163077) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Ross Thanks again for the CD's Julie. I would like to have a go at the potcheen and potatos song. Your lyrics are very good - you must be a poet Hope session 4 is better - sorry you didn't get a chance to sing on Wednesday |
16 Apr 04 - 09:43 AM (#1163142) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Julie B Hi again Ross, You are more than welcome to sing P&P, and make any slight word changes you feel you need to sing it as a man (guess last verse could go "but you are a wife and have two little children" or " but you have a husband and two little children"). Julie B (with cookie restored) P.S. What am I saying? This is The Bull at Barton-le-clay. You will of course be wanting to dress up in drag and sing it exactly as originally written! :)) |

17 Sep 04 - 03:35 AM (#1273794) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: GUEST,Ross without a cookie Hi Martin The Blues session was dominated by three 17 year olds who turned up with drum kits, Les Paul Guitars, £ 2500 bass guitars, millions of pedals and family retinues They were so good, so I didn't even get my guitar out of the case John Birch was the only other old duffer there - he joined in and played/sang very well I'm not sure about where the folk session should be (pub/back room) - I suppose I'm not used to the change I suppose we could alternate as the numbers demand - ie specials etc I'm glad to hear Saturday went well |
17 Sep 04 - 01:34 PM (#1274243) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: The Unicorn Man Cheers old timer. John said you seemed a bit down Dude, any change WILL be for the better, but we won't change too much without your kind permission. See you on Monday. I'm off to a car boot sale and to be on tv tomorrow. Tell you all on Mon. |
18 Sep 04 - 07:08 AM (#1274853) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Ross Hi Martin No, I'm not too down - I suppose it was more frustration on Wednesday As you know - I like to get involved, but on Wednesday the set up just didn't seem very encouraging (or I didn't want to be involved) I'm never to sure that all change is for the better, but I'm not a dinosaur - you don't need my permission to change things, but I will try and comment if I'm not sure about anything I don't like to see people unhappy - I know that's an impossible goal Good luck on the tv - will you be singing or selling a car boot |
19 Sep 04 - 06:25 AM (#1275462) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: The Unicorn Man I played my new Mandaline (if that is how you spell it) I will bring it to the castle tomorrow night so you may feast your eyes. And I bought a fiddle at the car boot sale too. P.S I have had a lot of good vibes from people who have heard we are in the big room and most of them will come along because of it. |
19 Sep 04 - 01:09 PM (#1275650) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: Ross That's encouraging news Martin What castle must I go to, tomorrow night See you at the Bull - looking forward to it |
19 Sep 04 - 02:31 PM (#1275707) Subject: RE: Blues in Barton, Beds weds - fortnightly From: The Unicorn Man The big castle I think. I am getting good feelings for Dec 4th as well, a LOT of people say they are coming. So we should get at least two. |
