30 Sep 98 - 07:37 PM (#40078) Subject: Golden Brown Flamingos.. From: Bill D 8 or 9 years ago, I taped a folk program which included a song which mused about roast flamingo..
"I've just been wondrin' how flamingo would taste...golden brown. something like that. I probably even still HAVE the tape...but my labeling procedures and filing system leave something to be desired, and I have lost track of it... I asked the DJ who played it (several years later), and she said she 'thought' it was by Greg Brown....does anyone know this immortal classic? It is a short song, but makes such a profound impact, ;-) , I would love to find it again. (Something to sing while preparing Thanksgiving dinner, perhaps) |

There was this experimental page...) Yup. Joe fixed it. |

FLAMINGOS
I was just a-wonderin how flamingo would taste,
Make some red eye gravy--won't that taste nice?
Now you can bring me chicken if it's southern fried,
(repeat 1st verse)
I told Larry that there's no need to wonder how it would taste; the flavor's somwhere between a bald eagle and a trumpeter swan !!! Art |

15 Oct 98 - 12:46 PM (#41813) Subject: RE: Golden Brown Flamingos.. From: Martin Ryan Despite my ornithological interests, I never got round to checking out this thread.
Some years ago, I was involved in the early stages of a project to preserve (in the sense of conserve!) corncrakes. The corncrake is a rather nondescript bird also known as the "land rail". Anyway, I discovered that Mrs. Beaton, the famous Victorian cook, included a recipe for same in her well-known cook book! She reckoned you needed four per portion. I suggested that if the project was successful we could start a whole new line in fast food, with corncrake kebabs etc.!
Regards p.s. are "trumpeter swans" what we call "whoopers"? |
