There's a Dad's Army Special on UK TV tonight, they're showing 2 episodes, one at 7.15PM, [the "Don't Tell Him Pike!"] one, and one at 9PM, that has been nominated for Britains best comedy.

I have taped almost every programme from SKY UK Gold, it is up there alongside Fawlty Towers and Father Ted.
Arthur Lowe was a genius and what a supporting cast, Dads Army left a great legacy to the world of comedy.

Well it was good for me. Didn't realise Clive Dunn was still alive, and he looked SO well. Phil Jupitus was an added bonus.

I don't think I could vote for just one of those shows mentioned? I would feel disloyal. But never got into YES MINISTER, maybe it was just of an era when I was more likely to be out gadding about.

But big thumbs up to all the rest.

I was once on a friend's yacht in Brighton Marina back in the 80's and we saw a beautiful old steam-yacht moored up there. The owner was out on the deck working on her and we spent a very pleasant few minutes talking to him about his boat. A very charming guy - it was Arthur Lowe.
Magic moments! RIP Arthur.

I've got a line drawing portrait of Capt Manwairing done by Clive Dunn. Wonder what it would fetch today?

Another character from Dad`s Army has died, Colin Bean who played the part of Private Sponge died on the 20th of June.
He didn`t take a prominent role in the Series but will always be remembered as the big pleasant chap always willing to lend a helping hand.
How many of the cast are now left of this great Series?, still getting an occasional showing on BBC2, one of the best comedy shows ever.

Ian Lavender ( Pike ) and The air raid warden, ( Bill Pertwee) as far as I know. Bill now enjoys a pint at the unique 'Bridge Inn' Topsham.

My favourite line ever from the series was when the German bomber had crashed in the reservoir:-

Capt Mainwaring: Right Men, if any Germans show their heads I want you to keep up a constant barrage of withering fire!

Pte Johnson: Permission to speak, Sir, Please Sir, how are we supposed to keep up a constant barrage of withering fire when we've only got five bullets each?
