22 Mar 04 - 06:20 PM (#1143310) Subject: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: The Fooles Troupe This is a serious question arising out of a heated discussion on the Mudchat started by noting that since Sting played the Hurdy Gurdy, now everyone wants to play one. Which new and unheard of musical instrument craze shall we start now? Robin |
22 Mar 04 - 06:24 PM (#1143311) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: The Fooles Troupe Actually I must reveal at the start of this discussion that I am already spoken for - I am definitely a left handed floggle-wopper convert. Robin |

22 Mar 04 - 06:59 PM (#1143347) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: artbrooks I must confess that I am fond of the noseflute. It is simple, with no moving parts whatsoever and requires no knowledge of fingering techniques or, for that matter, music. I will admit that playing a noseflute when one has a bad cold can be rather messy....... |
22 Mar 04 - 09:02 PM (#1143449) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: Peace I think it was Homer and Jethro who did a skit about a fenortan. It was a mucical instrument with two ends, both of which had to be blown into at the same time. The fenortan players had a harpist in the trio. One evening, one of the fenortan players took ill. The other fellow had to run from end to end, blowing into them simultaneously. He tripped and fell through the harp. Everyone went to visit him in the hospital, rooms 17 through 83. |

From: Bee-dubya-ell Well, since the Hurdy Gurdy is not new and unheard of but old and just relatively obscure, I think I'll be different and stick with another old and obscure one. CLICK HERE I'm not usually a fan of wind instruments, but I'd tackle that one just 'cause it looks so friggin' weird. Bruce |

23 Mar 04 - 08:52 AM (#1143747) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: Rapparee I used to know a fellow who played the B# whelkhorn, who even installed a pickup for the amp under the bridge, but strings on the valves cut his fingers up so badly that he gave it up. Last I knew, Knuckles (as we called him) was drumming for the Bodhran Bastards, a heavy metal Christian death-rock band out of Dingle, Idaho. |
23 Mar 04 - 06:27 PM (#1144299) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: Liz the Squeak Surely that should be a heavy metal Christian afterlife rock band? Dwyleflonking does not involve wellies - that's wellie wanging. Dwyleflonking does involve quantities of cider which is probably what has erased your memory. LTS |

Suffice it to say that one has not lived, has one, until a dangling dingle-oingle is part of one's life. No cider is necessary to appreciate its melodious qualities. However after some dark chocolate the tone takes on a certain - shall we say - darkness? Cheers JennieG.....dangling away |

25 Mar 04 - 07:17 AM (#1145651) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: JennyO My mother sang in the scree-weeeler style while my dad accompanied her on the orgie-thumper. It was quite deafening. When I needed some peace and quiet, I usually escaped to my little hidely hoe in the backyard to play quietly on my flolodler. |
25 Mar 04 - 08:55 AM (#1145717) Subject: RE: BS: RU a floggle-wopper or a waddletoot fan? From: Rapparee LtS, in Dingle, Idaho it's considered lucky to die. Even the Christians there are atheists. It's not that the town is boring, which it is, but that it's also not very exciting in its boredom. Knuckles is drumming for the most exciting bit of boredom in the town, playing the interior parts on the alto snare crescentscent -- the A-flat one, the one with two exterior and one interior drummers. I'm certain you've seen it, it's the one that they roll around on stage? the one that's always green and fuscia, with four seats and a rack for beaters, luggage, and so on. Anyway, Knuckles is the "inside man" on it, and he has been having fun working the knee pumps. |

Our blower, Arthur Brain, has a "Durwood Pickle" Belarusian zhaleika. Pre-loaded with crisps & peanuts at the fipple end this provides a daunting riposte to all hecklers. He usually uses it to accompany the Beerfordbury horse-drawn combat serpent (justly feared throughout Bohemia and the evirons of Trunkey Creek). He'll bring it along. |

19 Apr 04 - 08:49 AM (#1165124) Subject: The cigarbox guitar nutters From: The Fooles Troupe I have found the newest craze for unusual instruments. Further more I find it somewhat bemusing that "folk" insruments that are from the "poor folk" who didn't have resources to buy, but had to make their own, are now being promoted as a great craze. The cigarbox guitar guys are real nutters. They don't consider using the address from their yahoo group for unrequested unwanted spam to be wrong, and they are too stupid and selfish to see that having to go to a web site a couple of hundred times a day to get rid of unwanted unrequested spam is a problem - they only send a couple a week... and it is just the same info that they already send to the yahoo group where they got my email address from. "But you joined the yahoo cigarboxguitars group".... My email address from this group was used to send me unwanted unasked for advertising - in clear breach of the TOS of the Yahoo group. I asked within that group for it to please stop. I received several messages withn that group containing personal abuse for daring to speak out, and threats to have me removed from the group, just for complaining about the breach of TOS. So now drummers take heart! We have found another generic group of musos to make jokes about! What do you call a cigarbox guitar player with an agent and a pager? Deluded! Robin P.S. Pity - I always used to love all types of "primitive folk instruments'... |
