Bill Staines in Fort Worth (23-May-2004)

I hope this is plenty of warning!

I know Bill Staines is a favorite with a lotta Mudcatters, (me included) so I wanted to get this info posted, and see if we can get a bunch of the Mudcatters from the area, out to see him.

Bill will be playing at MacHenrys in Fort Woth on Sunday evening, May 23 at 8:00 PM.

MacHenrys is a nice small venue, with a good sound system, full bar and indoor outhouse. They are in a new location, a few blocks beyond the old place, and in much nicer digs (so if you've been to the old MacHenrys, please double check the new address below).

I hope we can get a lot of Mudcatters out for this show! Tickets are $10 (cheap).

OK - just kidding about the indoor outhouse. Here're the particulars:

Jed, Bill will also be appearing in Boonville, Missouri at the Big Muddy Folk festival on Friday/Saturday. I am looking forward to seeing him again. Bill is a good friend and a great performer. Maybe I can pump him for some more information about the time he and Seamus Kennedy were in Alaska at the same time and place! :-)

Seamus, do you know what comes after the first thing you know?

Right, Jed.
I hope you guys get to see Bill. He's a special man, and a fine, fine musician.
As for the Alaska story. Tweren't nothin'. Just a load od Scotch, and a disappearing bottle of Jack Daniels in his motel room. No big deal.....

I just got home having left Bill at the Big Muddy Festival in Missouri. He put on his usual great show. Got the audience laughing with some personal incidents from his adventures on the road and at home. This guy is a treasure! Besides being a superlative writer and performer, he is a heck of a nice guy. And he is the repository of all sorts of tales about his escapades with some of his fellow performers. He should consider puting some of those stories into a new book. I suspect that a collaboration between Seamus and Bill would be one of the funniest books in years. Of course, their fellow performers might band together into some sort of vigilanty organization.
I'm sure all this comes under the heading of "thread Creep", and I'm about as creepy as they come..................

I agree with Big Jim, that was a good set Bill did at Big Muddy. Liked his version of Thirsty Boots.

Bill Staines? I'll be there!

Isn't MacHenrys a bar? No matter, we'll be there.

Jed, I just saw Bill in concert in Blytheville, Arkansas. He did his usual good show. When you see him, give him my regards. After his concert we had supper together with some of his friends in Blytheville. Bill has all kinds of stories to tell about his travels and the people he's met. You might want to pick up a copy of his autobiography if you want to know what life on the road is like.

I would enjoy reading his autobiography and will get a copy. I am lookig forward to the evening, though I've picked up a cold and will be limited as to what/how I can sing (but that's just the way it goes).

I'll pass on your greetings.
