Hypothetical Question - East London gath

Here's a hypothetical question - Would Catters be interested in a mini gathering in East London around the end of October? We have a possible large room in a quite nice pub who were very impressed with what a gathering of strange musicians and lunatics can do.....

Answers on a posting please.....

Hi Liz - something wrong here as I put a post on yesterday agreeing with you. I had a great time on Sunday and would love to do it again. It was so good to meet other Mudcatters at last.

Kendal has pointed out that some people this side of the pond will be going over to the states for the getaway weekend on the third weekend of October so, if it happens, we should probably try and avoid that one.

Do you really need to ask me, Liz. Linda and I would be very interested. We'd also be willing to make the caravan available to anyone who needs accommodation - it's beautifully warm with the radiator working.

By October they might even have finished closing the southbound Blackwall Tunnel at 9pm on weekends - saves us nearly 20 miles (and £1) going home !

Who was it, on Sunday night, that came up with the idea that since Mudcat online is REAL, any of these gatherings has to be VIRTUAL ?.

What would people do for accommodation, Liz?

If its over the half term unfortunately Micca and I will be at the Getaway. Any other convienient time we can turn the house into a mudcat doss house if people don't mind being 'cosy'!!!

Yes, Liz, I would be very interested ! I am "out of circulation" at the moment, because my mum has been in hospital since early March and waiting for transfer and surgery, and I am literally the only person she has to visit her and do things for her, so all plans like that have had to be on hold for some time already. So I missed the Sorcha/Kendall gathering, sadly. BUT, by October, the situation will have to have changed in some way. So....count me in, please.

Cheers ! Looking forward to it already.

Depending on the weekend we pick (and this will rely on Getaways, West Ham playing at home and other fixtures), there are several Mudcatters' nearby who would be willing to turn their houses into Doss Houses for the duration. This would mean cosy mixed and indoor camping (for that read cramped floorspace next to other people who fart, snore and belch for their country).

For a small fee, I'm happy to provide some of the food (I knew all those years in a vegetarian restaurant would be useful!) and there are lots of places around to get food cheaply and not so cheaply! The pub has a large garden and there is a park nearby so lots of space to run children round in. The pub has the merits of being near shops, public transport, has a bus stop right outside it and has been known to serve pretty good beer. There are some locals who could be persuaded to join in and we might be able to set up a "live link" to Mudcat, just to piss off those who can't be there!

It is not too far from Stratford, gateway to the Continent, so our European chums can make it via the Chunnel, City Airport less than 2 miles away, Stanstead airport about 20 miles (with a direct bus link to Stratford) so there really is no excuse!

With the new security check-in arrangements for travellers to the US likely to add at least one minute per passenger to the check-in time (350 passengers = 350 minutes = damned near six hours!), the desire to visit there recedes rapidly! So no Getaway for us.

Count us in for E London, Liz, again avoiding half-term if possible.

OK, looks like this might have legs then. Will chat with involved parties and see what we can come up with.

It might have legs on at the moment - but we'll probably all be legless afterwards !

Hiya Liz
Long time no see! An East London gathering in Oct sounds a tempting thought. I might even be able to combine it with revisiting that lovely little Brixton Garden Village, where I was dragged up!
Inevitably it will clash with something, however, as there is the Captain Cook Festival in Whitby between 23 and 31 Oct. The shanty festival part of it (in which the Shellbacks will be singing) is I think on the last weekend - tbc.
Also, would there be a (safe) place to park a campervan?
"I though I heard the old man say ...!"

BTW What do you mean "its not too far from Stratford" - its about 100 miles down the M40 and then across London! I believe Shakespeare took 4 days to make the trip!

Nonsense, Plaistow is only a few miles from Stratford.

What a pity all the reles have moved or died otherwise we could descend on them. However depending on dates etc. I would love to be near home again!! Keep us posted - preferably overseas.
