As Q says, it has been dealt with before. I quite like the mondegreen image of the rich stealing the flour (!) but not quite so much as my own picture of the toast going free (Free the Toast! From: breezy and thats it and thats it the missing v goes in at no 3 not to be sung at any other time but at the end of an evening John Tams only sings 3 verses and buggers off during the final chorus egos drag it out to its full length!!!!!!!!! we go round shaking hands with the audience,as its usualy small 25-30 we can get round in 2 reps of the chorus, once if ware quick then get everyone standing ,singing and waving their arms or picking up coats and glasses and buggering off home make up your own endings better than Auld lang Syne |

It's close, but not quite the same as what we sing, so I was wondering if it was your version, or if someone's transcribed it. The note from Georgina above, seems to indicate that it isn't what Tams wrote. Of course, the tune I use mutated from Beggar's Velvet, where the song is done in four part harmony, and the tune is difficult to differentiate from the harmonies. Blessings, Barbara |

I marked it as 120, but that should be 1/4=120 not 1/8=120. I just played it in ABC MIDIfier at 240 and the speed sounded right. ABC2Wins tempi sre different to everybody else's |

I hope that works. Robyn, I looked all over for a John Tams recording. Thank you very much for finding it. Am I correct in thinking that John Tams is the bearded guy with the guitar, and Barry Coope is on the keyboard? This recording is a real treat. In my research, I have found that a Roy Bailey recording is usually a very accurate representation of the songwriter's version of a song. Roy seems to do consistently excellent work. Am I correct in that perception? ...and I still believe that Dave Webber is infallible. Only Ani Fentiman believes otherwise - and she seems to remind him of that frequently. -Joe- |
