Our very own ALAN FRANCIS will be appearing at the Waltham Abbey Folk Club Feature Evening on Monday 26th April. Alan is the big man with the big voice and beautiful guitar style. He will be finishing off the evening for us with 35-40 minutes of first class entertainment.

As always, a warm welcome is extended to all who venture through the doors of the Folk Club. We will talk to you, sell you a raffle ticket and generally be kind. Why not come and sample this bonhomie for yourself? Or send a friend if you don't fancy it.

Be you poet, singer, musician, dancer or audience, we would love to see you.

We meet every Monday at the Royal British Legion, Brooker Road, Waltham Abbey, Essex. On singers nights and feature evenings admission is £1. On guest nights admission is £4. Children under 16 are FREE, so no need for a babysitter!

For further details email me at lynneheraud@yahoo.com or phone on 01920 870558.

Verily, Lynne, thou art too kind, forsooth!

Indeed, it is I.

Hope to see a few 'catters there, plus, of course, the usual mob.

Alan

Lynne's comment about babysitters tickled me. A surname like that.

Sorry Lynne, I couldn't resist it.

This is the latest limerick from the club publicity dept.

He's good, so it's one of your chances
On Monday to see Mr Francis
There'll be alcohol sunk
So don't get too drunk
Though you may, as the evening advances

My promise of old I must vary
Although of such action I'm wary
The daft sods where I work
Who's commands I can't shirk
Have banished me to Castle Cary

Just for the day, but I don't think I'll be back in time.

Next week may be.

Forty years?
That's not long
About the length
Of a Leraud song.

Long singing, can sometimes see you cursed
Its a bugger, when bladders want to burst
Though good is the song
In case its too long
Just make sure you go to the loo first

Long songs are fantastic
They stretch like elastic
If you sing them dirge-like and slow
But if you sing 'em fast
They soon will wizz past
and then to the bog you can go.

Do I detect a challenge?

Forty minutes could merely comprise: for Breezy, who seems to appreciate my renditions of Dylan songs - "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" and "Desolation Row"; or, for connoisseurs of long and arcane songs from the 60s - Al Stewart's "Love Chronicles" and Phil Ochs' "Pleasures of the Harbour"; or, at the risk of trespassing into Lynne's territory - "Lord Bateman" and "Sir Patrick Spens"

But maybe not - I'd need a crib sheet or two and that would blow my reputation!!

Alan

My computer went awry on above post. It went before I finished.

What I was gonna say was that Alan, if its in your song book, can you do Blind Willie Mctell.

Peace, to everyone looking in
