03 May 04 - 10:07 AM (#1176868) Subject: RE: Music For A Found Harmonium From: JohnInKansas Music for a Found Harmonium is one (of about 6 or 7) that I omitted a couple of years ago when I recompiled a local session book of about 650 tunes. The Jeffes' website that I found indicated that the copyright is "active" and gave an email address for information on use, but they didn't reply to my email. I couldn't tell from the information given whether the copyright was being enforced by "heirs of Simon Jeffes" or by a member of his former group. The tune is in the first edition of The Portland Collection that I have, and I assume it is also in the (I think current) second edition. The Portland Collection notes the "© Simon Jeffes" and a "Used by Permission," but that doesn't really tell you whether they paid to use it or just received permission. As related info, the only other tune that I found a clear copyright for was March of St. Timothy by Judi Morningstar. It is also in Portland with a "by permission" noted. I found contact information for Judi; but in the "rush to publish" I just didn't get around to making the contact, so it was also omitted. Both these tunes are popular in local sessions, and it would not be stretching it to place March of St. Timothy in the very popular category. People in my area have lots of "downloaded" copies of both, so they're fairly easily availabe. ("St. Timothy" often shows up as March of the Keebler Elves. I don't know whether Judi "approved" that title.) The other few that I omitted were cases where some copies indicated probable copyright, but I was unable to find confirmation of a "holder" for one. (A couple of these probably were © arrangements of trad tunes; but I wasn't able to trace them.) None of the others were particularly popular in local sessions. John |

I couldn't guarantee that was the original Patrick street tuning but it worked ok so maybe you could try it and see how you get on. Good luck, it's a challenging tune.. CK |
